Checking Out the Holes of Las Vegas' Painted Desert Golf Club

Image August 7, 2008--Painted Desert Golf Club is seemingly a Vegas original. This golf course, designed by the esteemed Jay Morrish, was the first, true desert golf course in the Las Vegas area, and has enjoyed cool moments like hosting the Nevada Open tournament and being the site of PGA Tour star Robert Gamez' course record round of 62. Painted Desert Golf Club is 18 holes of kinder, softer desert golf with generous fairways and non-death defying carries from tee box to fairways and greens. And you can now view the holes of Painted Desert Golf Club including the official signature hole of this Las Vegas golf course. The signature hole listed at painteddesertgc.com is the par 3, 187-yard, 8th hole that plays over water to a green guarded by bunkers back and left. Other intriguing holes at Painted Desert Golf Club are the par 4, 412-yard, second hole, and the par 3, 148-yard, 16th hole. "We knew that the course was going to be a daily fee so we made sure it was user friendly by staying away from creating deep bunkers or other tough design elements," Morrish has said about the course. "We also left the front of the greens open, but also designed them so there would some tucked-away pin positions if you wanted to create a little bit more challenge."

Royal Birkdale's Brutal 6th Hole at British Open Can Be Played at Las Vegas Golf Course Royal Links

Image July 17, 2008--The old saying is that if you birdie a tough hole during a round, you've picked up a shot on the field. But when it comes to the 499-yard, par 4, 6th hole at Royal Birkdale, site of the 2008 British Open (click for up-to-date leaderboard), a birdie there and you darn near pick up TWO shots on the field. And during an agonizing first round, Las Vegas golfer Adam Scott did just that, getting him to one-under par and into the lead for the moment. The 6th hole at Birkdale has been captured and nearly replicated at Las Vegas golf course Royal Links Golf Club, a course that honors the holes and tradition of the courses used in the Open rotation. At Royal Links, you will find the 6th hole playing as the par 4, 471-yard, 12th hole. This year, the Birkdale hole is being played about 20 yards longer than it was when the Open was played there in 1998. But aside from the yardage difference, and a new bunker that has been added at Birkdale to the left of the green, the two holes at Royal Birkdale and Royal Links (click to see a video) share the same look and playing feel. Click now to schedule your Las Vegas golf tee times at Royal Links Golf Club, a public, resort Las Vegas golf course.

Image July 5, 2008--Las Vegas golf courses Rhodes Ranch Golf Club and Tuscany Golf Club are both designed by the late--but legendary--golf course architect Ted Robinson. Las Vegas Golf Courses Share PGA Tour 'THE PLAYERS' Feel

Image May 8, 2008--With THE PLAYERS Championship underway at TPC Sawgrass in Florida, our mind wandered to how some of the best Las Vegas golf courses share the feel and style of the PLAYERS' site. TPC Sawgrass is a sister course to Las Vegas golf courses TPC Las Vegas (resort) and TPC Summerlin (private). All are owned and operated by the PGA Tour and are where the pros play, while Sawgrass designer Pete Dye has twirled his design magic three times here in the Las Vegas desert with the three Las Vegas golf courses at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort (pictured). Dye recently added to his legend when it was revealed that he will be inducted with the World Golf Hall of Fame Class of 2008. "This is really a surprise," Dye said. "With all the great people that are in the Hall of Fame, it's an honor to be part of them because they've all given back to the game of golf, and I'm certainly proud to be here as one of them." Rhodes Ranch, Tuscany Courses Part of Las Vegas Golf Authority

Image April 29, 2008--Two very enjoyable golf courses in Las Vegas are Rhodes Ranch Golf Club and Tuscany Golf Club. These Las Vegas golf courses--both Ted Robinson designs--boast his typical, playable style: wide fairways and large greens, plus very few forced carries and beautiful water features. But be careful, the par 3's are a challenge, and you'll need to pay attention to ball position. Both Rhodes Ranch and Tuscany are part of several other Las Vegas golf courses that can be found at lasvegasgolfauthority.com, a website operated by the PGA of America pros who manage the Las Vegas golf courses. You can book Las Vegas golf tee times online, view photos, and best of all you will be dealing directly with each golf course, therefore guaranteeing the best Las Vegas golf rates and vacation information. As the site says, "Don't gamble with your golf in Las Vegas."

Las Vegas Golf Course Desert Pines Gives Players a Warm, Fuzzy

Image April 15, 2008--I have to be honest with you. For awhile, I wasn't the biggest fan of Las Vegas’ Desert Pines Golf Club. I'm not sure what it was, and why this Las Vegas golf course didn't give me a true warm, fuzzy. Maybe it was the back-to-back fairways that seemed just a bit too close together, or maybe it was because of my personal struggles with the putter and the Desert Pines greens were just a bit too slick and tough. Poor me. Whatever the case, over the last couple of years, my opinion has done a complete reversal, and now I welcome every opportunity I get to tee it up at this Las Vegas golf course dubbed Pinehurst in the Desert (click now to watch the Desert Pines video) because of its Carolina theme.
