Las Vegas, Nevada (March 11, 2010)--The UNLV Lady Golfers love to play golf in their home tournament, as evidenced by several factors. Not only did they defend their title at Boulder Creek Golf Club in the Spring Invitational, but they dominated the field and also added the individual golf title with star Therese Koelbaek winning. Boulder Creek Golf Club is one of 50 Las Vegas Golf Region courses, and has been the host course for this Las Vegas golf event for several years. UNLV and staff report.

Las Vegas, Nevada (March 10, 2010)--Boulder Creek Golf Club is officially located in Boulder City, about 35 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip, but it is still referred to as a Las Vegas Golf Region course. And the UNLV Lady Rebel golfers are putting on an epic show thus far in the UNLV Spring Invitational. Las Vegas, Nevada (March 6, 2010--Both the UNLV Men's and Women's golf teams are in full swing in the 2010 Spring season, and both are looking ahead to home events played at Las Vegas golf courses. And each team has some golfers playing well and earning recognition, especially the men's team and star player Derek Ernst. Ernst was recently named Mountain West Conference Golfer of the Month for the third-straight time. And Therese Koelbaek recorded a top 10 at the Wave Invitational.--Staff and UNLV Report.

February 20, 2010 (Las Vegas, Nevada)--The No. 23 UNLV men’s golf team won the team title at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate on Friday by defeating Texas A&M in a playoff. It marked UNLV’s third team championship in seven tournaments this season and its fifth top-five finish of the year. The Rebels fired the low final round of the tournament with a 14-under-par 274 and after 54-holes found themselves tied with the defending national champions at 28-under 836. Texas A&M shot 12-under during the final round. UNLV defeated the Aggies on the first playoff hole to win the tournament.

October 28, 2009--Boulder Creek Golf Club is one of three Las Vegas golf courses located in Boulder City, Nevada, a small, non-gaming town located about 35 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip. And recently the course was again the site for a home event on the schedule of the UNLV Women's golf team. This Las Vegas golf event brought to town some of the best women college golfers in the country to this area. Arizona left the tournament with a pair of trophies, winning the team title along with Wildcat Sherlyn Popelka taking home medalist honors with a 7-under 209 (69-69-71). UNLV finished 10th.

September 16, 2009--The recent European Women’s Amateur winner, Caroline Hedwall, posted a victory in the inaugural Golfweek Conference Challenge presented by VTech. For her, it was a walk in the park. Make that a walk in the desert … as in the Desert Course at Primm Valley Golf Club, one of two Las Vegas golf courses at the facility designed by the legendary Tom Fazio. Hedwall, from Oklahoma State University, fired a three-round total of 9-under-par to win the individual title. Pepperdine earned the team title while the Desert Las Vegas golf course earned accolades from all involved. FINAL RESULTS.

September 14, 2009 (UPDATED 9/15) --Golfweek is, as they say, for the serious golfer, and the publication, led by Las Vegas resident Lance Ringler, has worked to bring some of the best women college golfers to the Desert Las Vegas golf course at Tom Fazio's Primm Valley Golf Club. The Golfweek Conference Challenge is in its inaugural year, and features four top 30 golf teams from the preseason Golfweek poll. Primm Valley Golf Club, designed by Tom Fazio, features two of the best Las Vegas resort golf courses that are open for all to play. Following the first round, Oklahoma State led at 7-over par. September 13, 2009--The UNLV men’s golf team captured the team title for the second consecutive year on Saturday at the 17-team, 55th Annual William H. Tucker Invitational, and Rebel student-athletes Derek Ernst and Colby Smith each tied for medalist honors. The tournament, which was UNLV’s season-opening outing, was played at the University of New Mexico’s Championship Course (par 72, 7,562 yards).

August 18, 2009--UNLV has hired Daron Dorsey, a member of the UNLV Men's golf team that won the 1998 National Championship, to be the new assistant coach for the men's golf team. Dorsey is a UNLV William S. Boyd School of Law alumnus and the hiring was announced by head coach Dwaine Knight on Monday. Dorsey was a member of the Rebel golf program as a student-athlete from 1994-98 under Knight. During those years, UNLV won the NCAA Championship in 1998, was NCAA runner-up in 1996, won conference and regional championships and numerous regular-season events against the best fields in college golf. Additionally, the program was consistently ranked at or near the top of every college golf poll during that period.
