UNLV Men's Junior Golfer Seung-su Han Wins Third Career Conference Golfer of the Month (November)

November 7, 2007--UNLV junior men's golfer Seung-su Han and Colorado State sophomore Bryce Hanstad, have been selected the Mountain West Conference Men's Co-Golfers of the Month for October, the league announced Wednesday. In UNLV's only tournament of the month, Han, an Incheon, South Korea, native, led the Rebels to a third-place finish at the at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate, Oct. 8-9, in Birmingham, Ala. The 12-team tournament featured nine of the Top 50 programs in the country, led by third-ranked Alabama, who captured the overall title.

UNLV Men's Golfer Seung-su Han Wins MWC Golfer of the Month Award

October 10, 2007--UNLV junior men's golfer Seung-su Han has been selected the Mountain West Conference Men's Golfer of the Month for September, the league announced Thursday. Han, an Incheon, South Korea, native, finished second at the Shoot-out at Angel Park, helping the Rebels to a team title in his only appearance of the month. He had rounds of 68-70-70, to finish at five-under-par 208 on the 6,722-yard Angel Park Golf Club in Las Vegas.

UNLV Finishes 10th at Sahalee But Wins Spirit Award

October 10, 2007--UNLV women’s golf finished 10th at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational on Wednesday and the Rebels were led by Natasha Krishna, who finished in the top 20 at the tournament, which was held at the Sahalee Country Club.
The Rebels had a team total of 921 (312-302-307, +57) and they also earned the Sahalee Spirit Award, which went to the team that demonstrated the most sportsmanship and team spirit throughout the tournament and was voted on by tournament workers and volunteers.

UNLV Men's Golf Finish Third at Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate
October 10, 2007--The No. 16 UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 1-over-par 285 and finished third at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate on Tuesday at the Old Overton Golf Club (par 71, 6,958 yards). The Rebels, who were just six shots back of host Alabama to start the day, finished at 23-under 829 for the tournament, 19 shots behind team champion Alabama. The Crimson Tide shot a final-round low 12-under 727 to finish at 42-under 810.

UNLV Men's Golf Wins Event at Las Vegas Golf Course Angel Park Golf Club

Image October 3, 2007--The No. 16 UNLV men's golf team blew past the competition and was the only team to break 280 for the Shoot Out at Angel Park as it shot an 8-under-par 276 during the final round on Sunday, which was played at Angel Park Golf Club in Las Vegas. Angel Park Golf Club, billed the world's most complete golf experience, is the home or two Arnold Palmer Las Vegas golf courses, a lighted par 3, a real-grass putting course, and a lighted practice facility.

UNLV Men's Golf Tees Off at Site of 2008 NCAA Finals
September 19, 2007--The UNLV men's golf team, which dropped four spots to No. 16 in the latest edition of the Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches' Poll, will travel to West Lafayette, Ind., to play at the PING/Golfweek Preview on Saturday and Sunday, September 22 and 23.  The tournament, which will be played at Purdue University's Kampen Course (par 72, 7,467 yards), will be a preview to the 2008 NCAA Championship, which will be held on the same course in May.

UNLV Ladies Coach Ringler Wins State Golf Title at Las Vegas Country Club

Image September 7, 2007--UNLV women’s golf head coach Missy Ringler won the 2007 Nevada Women’s State Amateur tournament by a single stroke on Thursday, outlasting Nicole McGirr, who is currently a junior on the Rebel squad. Ringler finished with a three-round total of 227 (+11) on the Las Vegas Country Club course to earn her second Nevada amateur title. She won her first state medalist honors in 2003. Ringler shot a final-round 74, which was three strokes better than McGirr, who fired a final-round 77. The UNLV Women are currently ranked number 29 in the Golfweek pre-season poll.

UNLV Women's Golf Adds Division II Superstar to Roster

Image August 8, 2007--UNLV women’s golf has added transfer Tonya Choate to its roster, head coach Missy Ringler announced, and Choate will be eligible to compete for the Rebels this fall. Choate, who will be a senior with one year of eligibility remaining, is transferring from Division-II Drury University in Springfield, Mo., where she played three seasons for the Panthers. Choate won 12 tournaments and placed in the top 10 in an additional 17 events in her three years for the Panthers, and she has a career-scoring average of 76.04.

UNLV Golfers Named Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars

July 18, 2007--University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) golfers C.J. Gatto and Jarred Texter have been named Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars for Division I, which were recently announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America's All-America Scholars Committee. To be eligible, student-athletes must be a junior or senior at their institution with a 3.2 minimum cumulative grade point average. In addition, student-athletes must obtain under a 76.0 stroke average. Both are juniors, and key members of the team.

University of Nevada, Las Vegas Golfer Brett Kanda Wins 108th SCGA Amateur

Image July 4, 2007--Brett Kanda, a redshirt sophomore on the highly-ranked UNLV golf team, won the 108th playing of the Southern California Golf Association Amateur Championship by firing rounds of 68-66-71-70--275 at Victoria Golf Club in Riverside, Calif. And immediately following the tournament it was announced that Kanda would be one of the California representatives on the California team for the playing of the prestigious Pacific Coast Amateur Championship to be held August 7-10 at San Diego Country Club. Kanda defeated UC Irvine's Brian Edick to win the SCGA event, withstanding Edick's final-round 67. While at UNLV, Kanda plays and practices at the Rebels home Las Vegas golf course, Southern Highlands, and other Las Vegas golf courses including Las Vegas Country Club, TPC Canyons and others.
