Seven PGA Tour pros with serious ties to Las Vegas golf and golf courses are in the top 128 on the PGA Tour official money list through February 21. Las Vegas is home to 11 pros who either live here, grew up here, or played at UNLV for the top-ranked Rebel golf team. The pros have played many of the best golf courses in Las Vegas including Rio Secco Golf Club, Cascata Golf Club, Shadow Creek, WYNN Las Vegas, Reflection Bay Golf Club, Las Vegas National Golf Club, Bali Hai Golf Club, The Revere at Anthem, Rhodes Ranch Golf Club and Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort.

There are 11 PGA Tour players who either live here, grew up here or played golf for UNLV. The eleven have varying degrees of status on the PGA Tour, but all will play in many events this year, and after the first few events in the new PGA Tour playoff system, the Las Vegas golf pros are all over the place in the point standings. And if you count three-time Las Vegas Invitational champion Jim Furyk and defending FRYS.com Open champ Troy Matteson as having Vegas golf ties, then we have 13 pros representing the city every weekend.

Robert Gamez grew up in Las Vegas, playing in junior events on the Southern Nevada Junior Golf Tour, in high school events at Clark High School, and in Southern Nevada Golf Association amateur events where he was the Player of the Year from 1985-88. But this week, Gamez continues his PGA Tour career in his adopted home state of Florida, and John Maginnes, a PGA Tour player and current golf analyst for XM Radio's PGA Tour network, picks Gamez to win his fourth-career title. Gamez unfortunately missed the cut.

At the 2007 Honda Classic, all six of the Las Vegas PGA Tour pros who teed it up  missed the cut played at the re-designed Nicklaus National course in Florida. And at the PODS Championship--being played this week at the Copperhead Course also in Florida--things aren't looking a whole lot better for the pros who have serious ties to Las Vegas. After the first round, only Ryan Moore is among the top 50 players, but others are at least holding their own and battling to make the cut. Official PODS Championship leaderboard. 

In a previous headline, we at GolfLasVegasNow.com claimed "Florida Sucks for Las Vegas Golf PGA Tour Pros." Well, two of them are proving us wrong and have made the cut at the PODS Championship being played in Florida, and are battling for Top 15 finishes, or better.

Four PGA Tour pros with Las Vegas Golf ties will compete in the World Golf Championships-CA Championship that recently named Don Shula as its honorary tournament chairman. Shula, the former Miami Dolphins head coach, has Vegas ties as he once played in the Danny Gans Partee Fore Kids event at Southern Highlands Golf Club. The Danny Gans event benefits the First Tee of Southern Nevada through the Las Vegas Founders Golf Foundation.

Las Vegas Golf LPGA Tour players Erica Blasberg, Kim Hall and Natalie Gulbis tee it up at the Safeway International in Arizona March 23-25 in Arizona at Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club--Prospector Course. Gulbis plays out of Reflection Bay Golf Club at Lake Las Vegas Resort and Blasberg plays out of the TPC Canyons.
