Louden 'Fires Caddie' After Best Finish; Fine Tunes Swing, Putting |
Stephanie Louden May 6, 2007 (UPDATED: May 9, 3 PM PST) --Las Vegas native Stephanie Louden had the best week of the four LPGA players who live in Las Vegas. She stood in a four-way tie for the lead entering the final round of the SemGroup Championship, but fired a final round 74 to fall back into a tie for fifth place. Amazingly, she was the fourth alternate, and only got into the event when Annika Sorenstam elected not to play at the last minute. Louden took full advantage. Louden, who is teeing it up in the Michelob Ultra Open at Kingsmill May 11-13, says that her putter was the difference, and that after a re-shuffle in the rankings following this event, she should be in position to play in all four majors, and some of the other bigger events. "I started working on my putting with Dr. Craig Farnsworth before last year's British Open, and it's good to really see my putting come together," Louden says about her sessions with Farnsworth, who some call the "The Putt Doctor." |

|
April 16, 2007--Kudos to The News weekly golf columnist Jeff Jensen for being the first Las Vegas golf media person to recognize former UNLV Rebel golfer Skip Kendall on winning the Nationwide Tour's Chitimacha Louisiana Open presented by Dynamic Industries. The win broke a streak of 384 PGA Tour-sanctioned events without a win for Kendall, who has enjoyed a long career on the PGA Tour, but has never won a PGA Tour event but did win two events in 1994 on what was then the Nike Tour (now the Nationwide). "It has been a long time," Kendall told PGATour.com. |

College Roomies Play Masters Together; Vegas Golf's Wilson Calls Course Setup 'Disappointing' |
Dean Wilson April 8, 2007--Dean Wilson moved to Las Vegas a few years ago, but before his days of living and golfing in our so called "sin city" he lived in Utah, playing college golf at BYU with eventual Masters champion Mike Weir. The two were roommates and best friends. Back then, they never even dreamed about what they became on Saturday at the 2007 Masters: playing partners on the golf world's biggest stage. According to Salt Lakes City Tribune columnist Kurt Kragthorpe, both ended the round with disastrous results, and then made comments less than complimentary about the course setup and the committee behind it. |

Late Blooming Las Vegas Golfer Dean Wilson Gets His Masters Shot |
|
April 5, 2006--Dean Wilson moved to Las Vegas a few years ago, but he didn't really get out much in the community. He pretty much played and practiced at the TPC Canyons and TPC Summerlin, and laid low, playing tournemants across the globe. But then Wilson was named the 2006 Favorite Las Vegas PGA Tour Player by VegasGolfer Magazine, and he spent the Fairway Awards show evening with fellow Southern Nevada PGA Tour player Craig Barlow, formulating a plan on how the two could experience a few more Las Vegas golf courses. |
