April 27, 2007--Tommy Armour III, one of the most flamboyant PGA Tour pros in the history of the game, was in the top 40 after the first round of his adopted home state event, the EDS Byron Nelson Championship in Irving, Texas. Armour III, who dresses flashy and parties even flashier, annually throws a pre-tournament bash that has featured near-naked women as sushi platters, great entertainment, and a guest list that is a who's who of the PGA Tour and the Dallas area. Other Las Vegas pros teeing it up this week include Ryan Moore, Dean Wilson, Chad Campbell and Charley Hoffman. Armour III played high school golf here in Las Vegas at Bishop Gorman.

April 21,2007--Charley Hoffman, a member of UNLV's 1999 National Championship golf team, was tied for fourth after two rounds of play at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. He trailed leader Mark Caclcavecchia by only two shots. Earlier this season, Hoffman won the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic for his first PGA Tour win. But a horrendous final round 79 dropped him 62 spots from where he started the third rouny to a finish in a tie for 66th.

April 16, 2007--Kudos to The News weekly golf columnist Jeff Jensen for being the first Las Vegas golf media person to recognize former UNLV Rebel golfer Skip Kendall on winning the Nationwide Tour's Chitimacha Louisiana Open presented by Dynamic Industries. The win broke a streak of 384 PGA Tour-sanctioned events without a win for Kendall, who has enjoyed a long career on the PGA Tour, but has never won a PGA Tour event but did win two events in 1994 on what was then the Nike Tour (now the Nationwide). "It has been a long time," Kendall told PGATour.com.

April 13, 2007--Dean Wilson, fresh of a top 20 finish at the Masters, Ryan Moore, Robert Gamez and Chad Campbell (he missed the cut at the Masters), all pros with ties to Las Vegas and Las Vegas golf courses, played in the Verizon Classic, played in Hilton Head, SC, April 12-15. One Las Vegas pro, Craig Barlow, hoped to play, but was still nursing a wrist sprain. Wilson finished tied for 10th in the event. Moore settled for a tie for 56th while both Campbell and Gamez failed to make the cut to the weekend.

April 13, 2007--Lake Las Vegas Resort resident Natalie Gulbis broke out of somewhat of a slump at the GINN Open in Florida, the LPGA Tour event played April 12-15. Gulbis opened with a solid 69 and then followed up that solid round with two more to be in solid contention heading into Sunday. But a disastrous final round 80 tumbled her to a tie for 11th and about $44,000 in prize money. Champion Brittany Lincicome pocketed $390,000.

April 12, 2007--Erica Blasberg, a fairly new resident to Las Vegas and who plays out of Las Vegas golf course TPC Canyons, recently hosted the 2nd Annual Erica Blasberg Corporate Challenge in her hometown of Corona, California. The event supports her foundation, The Foundation for Community and Family Health. The event featured LPGA Tour players and Las Vegas golf residents Kim Hall and Stephanie Louden, other LPGA Tour players including Irene Cho, and athletes and celebrities from the NFL, X Games and other areas. The event was played at Eagle Glenn Country Club and Retreat Country Club, and the USC Marching Band welcomed guests with a rendition of the USC fight song.
