November 28, 2007--UNLV freshman Therese Koelbaek has been selected the Mountain West Conference Women’s Golfer of the Month for November, the first league honor for Koelbaek. Koelbaek, a Holte, Denmark, native, turned in the best performance of her career, winning the USF/Richmond Country Club Invitational at the beginning of November. All-World Fun, Competition at Las Vegas Golf Course Reflection Bay for Wendy’s Three-Tour Challenge

Image November 13, 2007—The first thing you notice as you walk up to the driving range of the Jack Nicklaus-designed Reflection Bay Golf Club, one of three Las Vegas golf courses at Lake Las Vegas Resort, is the giant, inflatable Wendy’s Frosty that is planted at about 100 yards in the landing area. Then you watch as the PGA Tour’s Chris DiMarco warms up while trying to bounce his Titleist golf balls off of it. DiMarco is flanked by Champions Tour players Jay Haas and Fred Funk, while down the range are LPGA Tour players Morgan Pressel and Natalie Gulbis (a Lake Las Vegas resident). Already finished warming up are PGA Tour players Camillo Villegas and Bubba Watson, and Champions Tour star Nick Price. The LPGA Tour’s Christie Kerr joins the group a little bit later. All were at Lake Las Vegas Resort for a couple days of competitive golf and fun during the Wendy’s Three-Tour Challenge, but also to raise large dollars and awareness for the Dave Thomas (Wendy’s founder) Foundation for Adoption. They participated in a pro-am on Monday as did other Tour players Kirk Triplett, Lake Las Vegas Resort player Craig Barlow, Andy North and Amy Alcott. The official event, pitting the three-player teams against each other, was played today. We won’t ruin the surprise of the results because you can catch all of the action December 22-23 on ABC. No More FRYS.com; 2008 Will Be Shriners Hospitals for Children Open

October 15, 2007--FRYS.com, according to 2007 tournament chairman Gary Davis, helped save the PGA Tour in Las Vegas, but after two years, they are leaving as title sponsor, handing the reigns to the Shriners, who this year took over as the host organization. The Shriners are self-described as one of the "biggest secrets" in philanthropy, and have created a new branding and PR campaign moving forward, and working with Las Vegas and the PGA Tour is a spring board for those efforts. The Shriners operate 22 hospitals worldwide, and have an annual operating budget of more than $700 million that will soon become about a billion dollars. The funds are generated from an endowment, and the Shriners are always seeking new benefactors. And the golf demographic is a perfect fit according to Ralph W. Semb, Chairman, Board of Trustees for Shriners Hospitals for Children. The new name of the event will be the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open and the event will be played the week of October 6-12, 2008. The agreement gaurantees the event to be in Las Vegas through 2012 and played at Las Vegas golf course TPC Summerlin. For more and complete press conference transcript ...
