January 13, 2010--TPC Las Vegas is one of two Las Vegas golf courses that are owned and operated by the PGA Tour, and is a resort Las Vegas golf course. This week, TPC Las Vegas was the host course for the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMCE) Celebrity Golf Tournament sponsored by Canon U.S.A. Many celebrities, including Las Vegas residents Rollie Fingers, Natalie Gulbis and former Nevada Governor Bob Miller, played.

January 4, 2010--Justin Timberlake is a major headline celebrity superstar, and his powerful brand, according to a recent survey, has helped bring world-record awareness to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. The singer-actor-writer--etc. annually hosts Las Vegas' PGA Tour event, the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, and according to the Daily Beast survey, he has helped bring in more than $9 milllion worth of media exposure to the Shriners' cause.

December 15, 2009 (Updated Dec. 17) --A person could argue that during the first few days (week?) of the Tiger Woods saga that it was a celebrity 'news' story and not a golf news story. A middle-of-the-night accident, alleged (at the time) marital infidelity, and you know the rest. But now that Woods has announced he is taking a leave from the game and his foundation, and major sponsors are ending agreements, this is now a bonafide golf news story because nobody knows when or if the best player in the world will return.

December 11, 2009--President Barack Obama is just another in a long line of United States presidents who have played golf in Las Vegas. According to the newest Golf Digest, Obama snuck in some holes at Las Vegas golf course Bali Hai Golf Club during his campaign for president. But until he plays in Las Vegas as the sitting president, we can't officially add him to the list of Clinton, Bush, and Ford, among others (to our knowledge, he hasn't). But here is an open invitation to him to return.

December 5, 2009--Las Vegas is the home to some of the biggest events in the world, and this week is no different with the National Final Rodeo, NASCAR Champions Week, and the Las Vegas Rock 'n Roll Marathon all taking place. And some Las Vegas golf courses are the site where some big-time celebrities are playing in Las Vegas golf tournaments including George Strait, Kurt Busch, and Butch Harmon, among others.

November 29, 2009 (updated 11/30 and 12/2) --The only thing that we will ever know for sure about the recent news that Tiger Woods, who has strong ties to Las Vegas' golf courses, was involved in a mysterious car accident in Florida, is that the incident proves, without a doubt, that he is human. Earlier this year, his armor was chinked when he lost for the first time in 14 tries when leading a major entering the final round. That loss to Y.E. Yang showed a human side as well. Before these two separate instances, Tiger pretty much seemed super-human: perfect swing, perfect record, perfect life, perfect wife, perfect off-course lifestyle, etc. But, as we all know deep down, there is nobody who can live up to the spotlight of perfection.

November 21, 2009--It seems like just yesterday that UFC Superstar Tito Ortiz was attending a photo shoot for the cover of VegasGolfer magazine, posing menacingly with a driver in hand while stomping on the neck of a 'fallen golfer'. But this day actually occurred in 2005 at Las Vegas golf course Rio Secco Golf Club, a beautiful Rees Jones design. Following the shoot, Ortiz and this writer played 18 holes, talking golf, business, life and fighting. Now tonight, Ortiz is back in the UFC fold, fighting Forrest Griffin in a rematch of a classic 2006 fight that happened several months following the round at Rio Secco. Ortiz won the fight via a controversial decision.

November 18, 2009--Sometimes when you are a writer, you just plain get scooped, and that is the case this day as Norm, the Celebrity Reporter from the Las Vegas Review-Journal, has reported the inside details about Vice President Joe Biden playing golf at Lake Las Vegas Resort over the weekend.
