Former UNLV Rebel golf Chad Campbell to defend 2006 Bob Hope Chrysler Classic.
By Brian Hurlburt, Golf Las Vegas Now, Editor Chad Campbell was an All-american golfer at UNLV, and is now one of the most accomplished golfers on the PGA Tour. He has three career wins, and January 17-21 he defends his title at one of the most unique events on the PGA Tour schedule, the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. Campbell has won the 2003 TOUR Championship and the 2004 Bayhill Invitational presented by MasterCard in addition to his win at the Bob Hope. The Bob Hope Chrysler Classic is played over five rounds with celebrities, and is known as one of the lowest scoring events on the PGA Tour. George Lopez is the celebrity host and heads a large gathering of athletes, actors and other notables that includes Samuel L. Jackson, Roger Clemens, Jerome Bettis, Huey Lewis, Marcus Allen and many others. "It's very easy to get impatient when you are out there and you start off with four or five pars or you shoot even on the front nine," Campbell said at his champion's news conference about the feeling of needing to get off to a good start. "You kind of feel like you get behind. You've just got to stay patient; it's hard to do and keep trying to make birdies." Campbell is thrilled with the notoriety he is receiving for being the defending champion. "It's always great to be back after you've own the previous year," Campbell said, before discussing the huge billboard with his likeness on it. " ...driving in, I saw the one, I guess the billboard. It's pretty cool, the thing is huge. I don't know how tall it is but ... that's awesome." Other Las Vegas golfers in the field include Craig Barlow, Ryan Moore, Robert Gamez, Tommy Armour III and Charley Hoffman. When Campbell was a UNLV Rebel golfer, he had access to some of Las Vegas' best golf courses including Shadow Creek, Rio Secco, Las Vegas Country Club, TPC Canyons, Reflection Bay Golf Club, Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort and many others. The Las Vegas PGA Tour event, the FRYS.com Open, will be played in October at TPC Canyons and TPC Summerlin. For Las Vegas Golf course tee times or official golf course websites.
