March 26, 2007--Tiger Woods is on a hot roll. One that's lasted about a decade, and shows no signs of cooling. When Tiger finally dispatched Brett Wetterich over the weekend to win the CA Championship, a World Golf Championship event, it marked his 77th win as a professional. His first PGA Tour win came at the 1996 Las Vegas Invitational, played at Las Vegas golf courses TPC Summerlin, Las Vegas National Golf Club and the old Desert Inn Golf Club (since remodeled to be WYNN Las Vegas). The 77 wins come in three categories listed in the official PGA Tour media guide: official PGA Tour wins, international wins and other victories. Tiger has won 77 times in just more than 10 years of playing. For a bit of perspective, Arnold Palmer won 86 times in the same three categories, with his first win coming 25 years before his 86th.

Jack Nicklaus won 104 times over a span of 27 years including several victories in Las Vegas.

Interestingly, the PGA Tour media guide includes US Amateur wins under Palmer and Nicklaus' other victories categories, but doesn't include Tiger's three US Amateur victories in that category in his official bio.

Tiger Woods' Las Vegas ties run deep. He came very close to playing college golf at UNLV; he annually hosts Tiger Jam, an event that benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation, in Las Vegas at Mandalay Bay with a private golf event at Cascata; he spent many years working at the Butch Harmon School of Golf located at Rio Secco Golf Club; and he also works closely with physical therapist Keith Kleven, who is from Las Vegas and a key member of the UNLV Golf staff.
