April 5, 2006--Dean Wilson moved to Las Vegas a few years ago, but he didn't really get out much in the community. He pretty much played and practiced at the TPC Canyons and TPC Summerlin, and laid low, playing tournemants across the globe. But then Wilson was named the 2006 Favorite Las Vegas PGA Tour Player by VegasGolfer Magazine, and he spent the Fairway Awards show evening with fellow Southern Nevada PGA Tour player Craig Barlow, formulating a plan on how the two could experience a few more Las Vegas golf courses.
But this week, while Barlow rehabs a sore wrist, Wilson is getting to know a non-Vegas course for the first time, Augusta National, while playing in his first Masters. Masters LIVE Scoring ... Now. Barlow plays out of Reflection Bay Golf Club at Lake Las Vegas Resort. Official Las Vegas golf course information and tee times Wilson grew up in Oahu, under the watchful eye of his Mom, Grace, who helped Wilson get interested in the game. Mom Wilson was interviewed by AP Golf Writer Doug Ferguson before the first round of the Masters, and she told him about how Dean played high school golf on a team with only five players, and three of them were girls, and how he walked on at BYU--after a short stint at BYU-Hawaii-- but played very little because the playing spots went to the scholarship players. Mike Weir, a future Masters champion, was his college roommate, and the two played a practice round in Augusta this week.
