April 18, 2007--The University of Nevada, Las Vegas men's golf program has received signed national letters of intent from Kevin Carrigan and Ji Moon to enroll at the school and play golf for the Rebels starting with the 2007-08 season, Head Coach Dwaine Knight announced.

Carrigan, from Victoria, Canada, is a sophomore at Midland (Texas) College. He will enter UNLV as a junior.

The UNLV golf team plays out of home Las Vegas golf course Southern Highlands Golf Club, but also practices at other great Las Vegas golf courses like Las Vegas Country Club, TPC Canyons, TPC Summerlin and many others.

Carrigan is a member of the 2006 National Junior College Athletic Association national championship team and he finished tied for third at that tournament with a 16-under par, 272 over the 72-hole event. His first three rounds were in the 60s.

Carrigan attended high school at Lambrick Park Secondary in Victoria.

"Kevin is the top player on his college team that won the national championship a year ago," Knight said. "And being on a national championship team is always a plus. He came highly recommended by Midland's coach Delnor Poss as a very dedicated young man. He has shot some really low rounds over the last couple of years and has good scoring capabilities.

"Kevin comes from a program that has had a lot of success. In fact Midland is the same school that Chad Campbell came to UNLV from. Kevin is a young man with two years of college experience and the maturity that comes with it and he will hopefully come in and really help us. He has high goals and we like that about him."

Moon, from Lake Mary, Fla., will graduate this spring from Lake Mary High School. He was a 2004 and 2006 Rolex Junior All-American and was the 2005 and 2006 Florida state individual champion for Class 2A high schools. His high school team won the 2004 and 2005 Florida state team championships.

Moon is currently the 16th-ranked player in the Golfweek junior rankings and will enter UNLV as a freshman.

"Ji is a two-time high school state champion and has really good playing experience," Knight said. "He has worked with David Leadbetter in Orlando, and we feel that he is a solid player with great potential for the future. He is a big young man with good size. He moves the ball really well and that will only increase as he matures.

"We feel that Ji is a really good prospect for going to the next level beyond college, which is a goal of his, and we are excited about having him."

The last UNLV golfer to come from Lake Mary was Jeremy Anderson.
