April 27, 2007--The weekend is here, and many of you will be teeing it up over the next couple days. In honor of the golf season being in full swing, Mike Davis, Director of Instruction at Las Vegas' Walters Golf Academy and a member of the prestigious GOLF Magazine Top 100 Teacher list, has provided a tip about how distance control will help you with your short game. Yes, that's right, distance isn't just for the tee box anymore. And as a special incentive to our readers, Davis is offering a special introductory value of 10% for his series of lessons. Proper Distance Control Will Lower Your Scores Every instructor will tell you that controlling distance is the key to a good short game, but most golfers don’t understand the steps needed to acquire good control of distance when putting, chipping or pitching.
Proper practice: use three to six of the same balls you use on the course, place the balls different distances from a target and take multiple “rehearsal strokes”, looking at the target and feeling the energy needed for the shot prior to each stroke. Use the “rehearsal stroke” on the course. Prior to each shot, take enough “rehearsal strokes” to get a sense of the proper size stroke. This process will get your mind focused in the correct place, more on the target than on your mechanics. I come across quite a few golfers who have pretty good technique, but poor distance control because they focus on their stroke rather than the target. Watch good putters, they will spend more time looking at the hole than looking at the ball because their focus is in the right place. Walters Golf features Bali Hai Golf Club, Royal Links Golf Club and Desert Pines Golf Club. Mike Davis is the Director of Instruction for Walters Golf Academy, and is a member of Golf Magazine’s Top 100 Teachers list.
