Peers Vote Las Vegas' Butch Harmon Nation's Best Golf Instructor ... Again Print E-mail

Image July 7, 2007--In his decade or so of living in Las Vegas, Butch Harmon has collected seemingly every accolade there is. He was named to the Southern Nevada Golf Association Hall of Fame, he won several VegasGolfer Magazine Instructor of the Year awards, and he has been named by his peers as the best several times, including recently in the list compiled by Golf Digest. It was the fourth-straight time he was named the best, and who can argue? He helped Tiger Woods become the best in the world, and when he split with Woods he helped Adam Scott become a top five player, and then he was sought out by the world's number two player, Phil Mickelson, for assistance. Harmon came to Las Vegas to open the Butch Harmon School of Golf that operates on the back end of the range at Las Vegas golf course Rio Secco Golf Club. The school is open to the public, and now the instructors who work under Harmon are also gaining recognition, notably Shawn Callahan who is working with PGA Tour winner and Las Vegas resident Charley Hoffman.

Other students that Harmon works with include Fred Couples, Lucas Glover, Corey Pavin and Nick Watney.

"Do I have an ego? Of course I do," Harmon told Golf Digest. "I think anybody who's good at what they do has an ego. But I just like being around people, especially golfers. I like helping them and entertaining them, whether they're tour stars or high-handicappers at our schools. We Harmons always say if b.s. were dynamite, we'd be atomic bombs."

Image Harmon and his brothers created the Harmon Brothers Teaching Summit in Las Vegas in 2006, and the event brought together some of the most talented and forward-thinking golf minds in the world. The event takes place again in Las Vegas this November 4-7, and PGA of America pros and amateur or pro golfers are welcome to attend the event that includes seminars, a golf tournament, cocktail parties and a golf demo day.
