July 20, 2007--Adam Scott, ranked in the world's top five, is looking for his first major win and is making his eighth appearance in the Open Championship, while Charley Hoffman and Ryan Moore (pictured) are making their first appearance in the major, known as golf's most historic event. All three are former UNLV Rebel golfers, and have made their mark on the world golf stage. Scott won the Shell Houston Open this year and is 9th on the money list through his first 12 events. Hoffman earned his first PGA Tour victory this year at the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic and stands at 38th on the money list through his first19 events. While at UNLV, the players were afforded the opportunity to play and practice at such prestigious Las Vegas golf course as Shadow Creek, Southern Highlands, TPC Summerlin, Rio Secco Golf Club, Las Vegas Country Club and many more. Other UNLV golfers who currenty compete on the PGA Tour include Chad Campbell (missed cut at Open Champiosnhip), Chris Riley and Skip Kendall, while Jeremy Anderson competes on the Nationwide Tour. Hoffman had fired rounds of 75-69-72 to stand in about 37th place while Moore shot three rounds of 72-74-74 and was well off the pace. Scott, through his 16th hole of the third round, stood in a tie for 31st at two-over par.
One of Las Vegas' golf courses, Royal Links Golf Club, was inspired by the holes used in the British Open rotation, and features a replica of Carnoustie's 15th hole.
