 August 12, 2007--There were five Las Vegas golfers with strong ties to Las Vegas who teed it up at the PGA Championship in Southern Hills, but by the weekend only two remained. Australian Adam Scott, still ranked in the top five players in the world and a student of Butch Harmon at Las Vegas golf course Rio Secco Golf Club, rebounded a bit from recent poor play, finished in a tie for 12th while fellow UNLV Rebel Chad Cambell finished in a tie for 57th. Ryan Moore, Dean Wilson and Charley Hoffman all missed the cut. Defending FRYS.com Open Champion Troy Matteson finished in a tie for 66th.
"From the US Open to now, I haven't swung the club well," Scott said before the week started. "It's been a bad time for that, because it's been very difficult courses, so my scores look woeful."  Tiger Woods won his 13th major, edging Woody Austin by two strokes. Woods' magical PGA Tour journey started at the 1996 Las Vegas Invitational played at Las Vegas golf courses Las Vegas National Golf Club, TPC Summerlin and the Desert Inn Golf Club, when he won his first PGA Tour event after defeating Davis Love III on the first playoff hole, the 18th at TPC Summerlin.
