September 1, 2007(UPDATED 9/4/07)--Former UNLV golfer and current Southern Highlands (one of the most exclusive private Las Vegas golf courses) resident Ryan Moore is looking good after the first round of the Deutsche Bank Championship, an event in the inaugural FedEx Cup, the PGA Tour's new (confusing) playoff format. Update: Moore entered the event in 52nd place, but a third-round 77 dropped him off the top of leaderboard and into a 41st place finish and a tumble to 57th in points, just good enough to qualify for this week's BMW Championship. Fellow Las Vegas golfers Adam Scott (9th in points) and Charley Hoffman (53) also made the BMW but Tommy Armour III, Dean Wilson and Chad Campbell all missed moving forward. Moore's first-round comments: "I'm very happy with the round," said Moore. "It was just solid throughout the day from off the tee and iron shots, and I wasn't hitting it really close, but fortunately I was making some good length putts. You know, just put together a pretty good round." Moore is also pleased with the new FedEx Cup format. "I ... actually, I like it (FedEx Cup) a lot.," he said. "I really love everything about it, everything that's happening, how everything's playing out. I think that keeps it interesting, keeps it fun and keeps you grinding, definitely, out there, working as hard as you can to keep moving up and getting into those last couple events." And Moore was able to laugh about his wrist injury that slowed him for awhile and forced him to a radical "lift" swing takeaway to ease the pain during a round. "I'm back to normal, completely normal, exactly how I was before, not lifting the club up anymore," said Moore with a laugh. "Last year at this time I was doing that." Moore won the 2004 NCAA Championship and US Amateur before turning professional. The Deutsche Bank is being played at the TPC of Boston, and is the second of four FedEx Cup events. Las Vegas is the home of two TPC Las Vegas golf courses, the TPC Canyons and the TPC Summerlin. The courses will host the FRYS.com Open Benefiting Shriner's Hospitals for Children October 11-14, 2007. Troy Matteson is the defending champion.
