September 7, 2007--UNLV women’s golf head coach Missy Ringler won the 2007 Nevada Women’s State Amateur tournament by a single stroke on Thursday, outlasting Nicole McGirr, who is currently a junior on the Rebel squad. Ringler finished with a three-round total of 227 (+11) on the Las Vegas Country Club course to earn her second Nevada amateur title. She won her first state medalist honors in 2003. Ringler shot a final-round 74, which was three strokes better than McGirr, who fired a final-round 77. The UNLV Women are currently ranked number 29 in the Golfweek pre-season poll.

McGirr, who is from Henderson, Nev., and a graduate of Green Valley High School, carded a 54-hole total of 228 (+12) to finish second overall. UNLV opens its season at the 2007 NCAA Fall Preview, held at the University of New Mexico Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M., on Sept. 24-26. The Rebels were ranked No. 29 in Golfweek’s Preseason Poll and return four letterwinners from last year’s squad.

Ringler was the 2004 and 2006 Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year, and was a two-time All Big Eight golfer at Iowa State. Her Rebels have won 10 tournaments under he watch, including the last three conference tournament titles.

The Nevada State Womens Amateur has a distinguished history with past champions including LPGA Tour Hall-of-Famer Patty Sheehan (four times), former LPGA Tour player Deborah Vidal (two times), Golfer's Guide publisher Liz Carrol, and current Las Vegas pro Nicole Dutt winning the event over the years.
