Las Vegas Golfer Natalie Gulbis Blogs From Victorious Solheim Cup Print E-mail

Image September 16, 2007--Superstar Natalie Gulbis, who lives on the fairways of Reflection Bay Golf Club, once again was a part of a victorious United States Solheim Cup team, and she spent a lot of her time writing for an LPGA.com blog about the experience for LPGA.com. Before the event, Gulbis wrote in an email to GolfLasVegasNow.com that the first win, two years, ago was her most memorable golf moment. In her blog, she writes about the tough conditions that they overcame: "The conditions today were very difficult; it is very windy and freezing. The temp (is) about 45 degrees ... Brrrr! We have hand warmers, long johns, turtle necks, back warmers, ski caps, sweaters, you name it ... lots of layers." The US team defeated the international team 16-12, with Gulbis earning a point for the US in Sunday singles with a win over Gwladys Nocera.

Gulbis plays and practices out of the Las Vegas golf courses at Lake Las Vegas Resort, where luxury Las Vegas golf packages are available in addition to online Las Vegas tee times. The other two Las Vegas golf courses are The Falls Golf Club and SouthShore Golf Club, in addition to the Jack Nicklaus-designed Reflection Bay Golf Club.

"Huge ... huge ...  This is one we definitely wanted," said Gulbis about winning on foreign soil for the first time since 1996. "We had to defend the one we had two years ago. This one was great. To win over here is great."

Gulbis was also part of the winning US team two years ago, when she won three points for the team.

Image Gulbis was given the honor of going out last by captain Betsy King in the Sunday singles matches, but, as it turned, out her match was inconsequential because the US clinched the win before she was finished. Even so, she still goes in the record books with the win.

"It was great," said Gulbis about going out last. "I was really excited about the match. I got off to a good start. I was happy about that. I found out on the green before I had a 15, 20-footer, I said, ‘Great, at 14, does that mean it's done? Why am I putting?'"

King said the following about the win: "Well, we had a lot of fun this week, and, as I mentioned a million times, we really played our hearts out. I thought we had a lot of talent on the team. I thought it would be tough to do it over here. If you go by history, but I kind of felt we were going to do it, but I didn't want to say that before we did it."
