April 23, 2008--NFL star Jonathan Ogden is hosting his 7th annual charity golf event this weekend with an opening event slated for The Palms on Sunday, April 27, and then golf at the exclusive SouthShore Golf Club at Lake Las Vegas Resort, a Las Vegas golf course designed by Jack Nickaus, the following day. Confirmed celebrities include former NFL stars Marcus Allen, Marshall Faulk, Andre Reed, Ki-jana Carter, Richard Dent, Eric Dickerson, Chris Doleman, Mike Flanagan, Willie Gault, Chester McGlockton, Mike Sherrard, Kyle Turley and Fred Williamson. Current football stars Chris McAlister, Junior Seau and Will Smith, actors Garret Wang and Dennis Haskins, former baseball star Vince Coleman and NBA hoops little big man Spub Webb. You can play in the tournament as packages including golf and the party, or only tickets to the party, are available. Call 702.242.3000 to reserve your spot. Tickets start at $250.
The proceeds from this Las Vegas golf tournament benefit at-risk kids in Las Vegas and Baltimore, where Ogden, an offensive lineman, played his entire career, earning one Super Bowl ring and laying the ground work for induction into the Hall-of-Fame. Ogden most likely is retired, but according to published reports has left a small window open for a return this year. The private SouthShore Golf Club is a stunning Las Vegas golf course that plays along the shoreline of the private Lake Las Vegas in the billion-dollar, resort and residential Lake Las Vegas Resort, the home of a Loew's Hotel in addition to a Ritz-Carlton. The two other Las Vegas golf courses at Lake Las Vegas Resort are Nicklaus' Reflection Bay Golf Club and the Tom Weiskopf-designed The Falls Golf Club, both resort Las Vegas golf courses that are open to the public and that should be played by those looking to tee it up in Las Vegas. Reflection Bay Golf Club is right up there with Las Vegas' best golf courses. Golfers are invited to participate and can call 702.242.3000 to become involved. Ogden is pictured on the golf course with the ladies of Pin Up Golf, tournament hostesses. Ogden is an avid golfer who lives in the Anthem Country Club community here in Las Vegas (actually Henderson, a suburb), who shows a deft touch on the golf course. He can pound the ball off the tee but also shows nice touch around the greens. He is a gentle giant, and is dedicated to giving back to his new community in addition to keeping close to his adopted hometown of Baltimore, where he helped the Ravens to a Super Bowl win.
"I'm not an athlete who feels like the public owes them something. I owe the public," Ogden told the Las Vegas Review-Journal recently. "That's the way it should be. I've gotten so much from playing football, I figured I would give back." This event looks to be a star-studded affair, and will include the cool party at the Palms that will include food, beverages and an auction. The Las Vegas Founders, the creators of the current Las Vegas PGA Tour tournament (they no longer operate the event) and organizers of the UNLV Men's Golf event known as the 'Masters of College Golf', have teamed with Ogden for the first time to host this year's event, now in its seventh year.
