July 15, 2008--It's not news that Las Vegas' Butch Harmon will have several players he works with teeing it up in a major championship this week at the British Open at Royal Birkdale. Among them are Phil Mickelson, former UNLV golfer Adam Scott and Ernie Els, each boasting a legit shot at lifting the Claret Jug. But what could be news for some is that everyday golfers can journey to Las Vegas' Butch Harmon School of Golf to learn from the teacher that Golf Digest has named, through voting by his peers, as the World's Number One Golf Instructor. The school, located at Las Vegas golf course Rio Secco Golf Club, is open to the public and offers schools featuring Harmon or his other highly-acclaimed teaching team members that includes Shawn Callahan, who works with PGA Tour star Charley Hoffman and helped hone the swing of recent U.S. Women's Open Champ Inbee Park, among others. Or, if you can't physically make it to the school, you can easily click to ButchHarmon.com for dozens of online print golf tips and video golf tips that will help your swing.
Also, if you want to keep up with all of the news and happenings from the Butch Harmon School of Golf, click now to sign up for the official Butch Harmon School of Golf Newsletter. A few of the golf tips and drills you can view at ButchHarmon.com include "Hit through a hula hoop", "How high to hit the ball when driving", and the "J.G. Rule", among others. Els is working on some 'simple' swing philosophies with Harmon, and it appears the effort might be paying off. Els finished 9th at last weekend's Scottish Open, a tuneup for this week's Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. "It's just trying to get the swing on plane," Els has told the media about what he is working on with Harmon. "I got a bit long on my backswing, and subsequently got out of sync with my lower body and upper body. And trying to be very aggressive through the ball, going forward instead of leaning back, and that's basically just starting with a good position on the backswing. From there you can really power the ball. I felt like I drove it really well. It's starting to feel a lot more comfortable."
Las Vegas golf course Royal Links Golf Club is made up of 18 holes that honor the courses played in the British Open rotation. Among the holes are two from Royal Birkdale. Harmon has a history of working with the world's best players as he worked with Tiger Woods and Greg Norman, leading both the world's number one ranking, in addition to his current stars that include Mickelson and Scott, the world's second and third-ranked players respectively.
