September 5, 2008--There's always a ton going on around and on Las Vegas golf courses. From celebrity Las Vegas golf events to Las Vegas golf deals to Las Vegas golf pros making a statement. Here's a few recent tidbits and news from Las Vegas golf courses. First off, Las Vegas Review-Journal Celebrity Report NORM! is reporting that Tiger Woods was in town this week visiting with his trainer, Las Vegas' Keith Kleven. Kleven has worked with Tiger, who is recuperating from season-ending knee surgery, for more than a decade. Earlier this year Kleven spent an entire week in San Diego helping Woods overcome his knee injury and win the U.S. Open. Woods met Kleven while being recruited to play at UNLV, and began working with him following a referral from fellow PGA Tour star Mark O' Meara, also a Kleven client. In other season-ending injury news, Las Vegas resident and PGA Tour veteran Craig Barlow is having hip surgery and will miss the rest of the season. He will utilize a one-time, full medical exemption on the Nationwide Tour in 2009 in an effort to gain back full PGA Tour exempt status for 2010.
Barlow has a long history of injuries but was feeling pretty good earlier this season and looking forward to a solid, healthy year. He qualified for both the US Open and the British Open, but says he was continually bothered by health issues. Barlow had made six of 15 cuts this year and earned $129,732. In more Tiger Woods news, he and EA Sports recently released the highly-anticipated Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2009 video game. And Mesquite golf course Wolf Creek Golf Club, located about 77 miles from Las Vegas, is featured as a new course to play in the game. Woods wnet on Conan O' Brien to talk about the game, and Lake Las Vegas Resort resident and LPGA Tour star Natalie Gulbis has also worked to promote the game. Wolf Creek (click here for official tee times at the resort course) has garnered several awards and is known for holes that play in amazing canyons of the Nevada desert. "Visually, it's absolutely amazing and is sure to overwhelm you with its dazzling beauty and breath-taking views ... yes, even in a video game,” writes game designer Travis Sailor on his blog at EASports.com. In other news, Mike St. Clair from North Carolina will soon be heading to Las Vegas for a three-night stay that will include two days at the Butch Harmon School of Golf located at Rio Secco Golf Club. He won a contest sponsored by Explanar at the World Amateur Golf Championships where more than 4,000 golfers competed. Explanar is a golf training system that Harmon endorses. Rio Secco Golf Club is a resort course--click now to make your Las Vegas golf tee times at Rio Secco--and is hosting the Wendy's Three-Tour Challenge in November. The event will pit the three main golf tours against each other.
"I believe that this is the best training system I've ever seen in my 40 years as a teacher," says Harmon. "It's quick and it's easy. It works everytime you use it and I use it everyday at my school in Las Vegas." The Harmon School is a hub for the best players in the world who fine-tune their swings at the facility. Some of the golfers who train there include Gulbis, Adam Scott, Phil Mickelson, Nick Watney, Charley Hoffman and many more. The 2008 Las Vegas PGA Fall Expo has come and gone with mixed reviews, but if you want a behind-the-scenes look at some of the featured golf stuff that was displayed, click now to view a report from ALL Golf TV.
