Las Vegas PGA Tour Golf Betting Experts Still Leery of Tiger Woods But Public Ready to Back Him

Las Vegas, Nevada (August 31, 2010)--The Las Vegas golf betting wiseguys still aren't sure if the real Tiger is ready to play despite his fairly solid performance at the 2010 Barclays. Because of that, there is somewhat of a split in his Las Vegas golf betting odds for this week's Deutsche Banck Championship. Tiger is the odds-on favorite to win (8/1) but despite that fact, he is not the favorite in a straight-up matchup against Steve Stricker. Woods is +110 while Stricker is -110. Stricker is 12/1 in the early odds. By Brian Hurlburt, odds by Jeff Sherman.

"On the odds to win market, Tiger is more attractive to bettors than Stricker is," says Jeff Sherman, founder of GolfOdds.com. "If their odds were to be reversed, we would see minimal money on Stricker and quite a bit on Tiger. The matchup, however, is more reflective of their recent play when it comes to where they have been finishing the tournament. Stricker has been solidly beating tiger recently and thus would be supported in the matchup if the price were simply derived from the odds to win discrepancy. Plus, matchup prices are geared more to the sophisticated bettor while odds-to-win prices are geared more to the recreational bettor." Click to Golfodds.com for the complete betting odds. Other odds to win include Phil Mickelson  and Rory McIlroy at 15/1, Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar (20/1, and Jim Furyk and Paul Casey at 25/1. It's a bit of a different story in the official weekly PGATour.com Power Rankings written by Rob Bolton. Bolton favors Johnson and Stricker, while Woods and Mickelson aren't in his official Top 10. "The unflappable Johnson led the the field in distance off the tee and greens hit en route to a T9 at The Barclays," writes Bolton, who states that due to damp conditions long hitters should rise to the top of the tournament to be played at TPC Boston. "(He also) ranks 175th on TOUR in final-round scoring average, but closed out a T4 at last year's Deutsche Bank with a bogey-free 66."

Bolton also notes that Stricker is the defending champion at the Deutsche Bank, plus his worst finish at the event in the last four years is a tie for 13th. He also ranks very highly in several major and important PGA Tour statistical categories. Some of the individual betting matchups include McIlroy -120 vs. Mickelson, Johnson -120 vs. Kuchar, and Casey even vs. Furyk -120. Some of the golfers with strong ties to Las Vegas in the field are Adam Scott (30/1), Nick Watney (40/1), Rickie Fowler (50/1), Ryan Moore (100/1), and Chad Campbell (125/1).
