Las Vegas, Nevada (November 10, 2010)--Las Vegas golfer Rickie Fowler has a million reasons to play well at the PGA Tour's Children's Miracle Network Classic in Florida this weekend. But he also could have bettors throwing cash on him at the betting windows because he was released as a 15/1 favorite to earn his first PGA Tour win. Fowler is followed in the PGA Tour betting odds by Stewart Cink, Sean O' Hair, Charles Howell III, and Jeff Overton who each opened at 20/1. But Las Vegas golf oddsmaker Jeff Sherman has an eye on some interesting individual betting matchups as well. --By Brian Hurlburt with betting odds by Jeff Sherman.
"This is a Tough spot for Rickie Fowler as the favorite after his journey through Asia the last couple weeks, and stated he only committed here to attempt to win the Kodak challenge," says Sherman, the assistant director of the Las Vegas Hilton Superbook. "I put more emphasis than usual on course form than current form as there was a break in action for most of the golfers. Two longer shots to keep an eye on are Joe Durant and George McNeill. The marquee matchup between Rickie Fowler and Charles Howell III should be interesting as Fowler's power rating is much higher than Howell's but the circumstances make this a tighter matchup to call. Any matchups with Joe Durant might be worth a look as he has been playing well of late and is a past champion with telling course form." Sherman also operates Las Vegas' GolfOdds.com and you can click there for the complete odds and any updates.
The Las Vegas Golf Region is the home to more than 30 pro golfers who play the major tours who have strong ties to Las Vegas golf courses, including Fowler who has had a home in Las Vegas for the last year. Fowler lives with fellow pro Cameron Tringale, but there have been some rumblings that Fowler may be looking to spend more time in Florida this year and his time in Vegas could be ending. More on that as info becomes available. The Las Vegas Golf Region is also the home to more than 50 Las Vegas golf courses, including the two Las Vegas golf courses at Revere Golf Club, the Lexington and the Concord. Both were designed by Billy Casper and Greg Nash, and are operated by Troon Golf. Click now for the official website of Las Vegas' Revere Golf Club.
Durant and McNeil go off at 40/1, while Fowler is a -135 favorite against Howell III who is +115. This could be a perfect time to wager against Fowler due to his potential fatigue and with his sights squarely on going as low as possible on just one hole in an effort to win the Kodak Challenge and the million bucks that goes along with it. The 485-yard, par-4 17th on the Magnolia Course is the 30th and final hole of the 2010 Kodak Challenge season. Fowler trails Troy Merritt by a single shot. Merritt is also in the field this week.
As always, we take a glance at the official PGATour.com Power Rankings, and there are major discrepancies between the betting odds and what Rob Bolton thinks. Fowler is not included in the top 10 of the Power Rankings, while Webb Simpson, Brendon DeJonge and Spencer Levin are the top three in the rankings. Simpson is 40/1, DeJonge is 30/1 and Levin is way down the list at 60/1 in the Las Vegas golf betting odds, so this could be one of those weeks where there is good value in betting a long shot. "(Simpson) is coming off a T4 at the Timberlake, where he led the field in birdies and fairways hit; also ranked third in putting and recorded a hole-in-one," writes Bolton. "Overall, he's 12th on the PGA TOUR in putting and 16th in total birdies." That could be a combination where both he and you could make some money this week. Simpson is -110 vs. McNeil -110 in a betting matchup. McNeil is listed 10th in the Power Rankings. |
