Las Vegas, Nevada (August 2, 2011)--It was only a matter of time before Tiger Woods made his dramatic return. And it happens to be this week at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational where Rory McIlroy opened as the favorite at 12/1 while Tiger was 20/1. This week marks Tiger's first event in several months and he will have a new man on his bag after firing Steve Williams last week. Other favorites are Lee Westwood, Steve Stricker and Luke Donald who each opened 15/1. --By Brian Hurlburt, odds by Jeff Sherman.
The Bridgestone falls the week before the year's final major, the PGA Championship to be played in Atlanta this year. Jeff Sherman, the founder of Las Vegas' GolfOdds.com, says the week before a major always makes for interesting betting decisions. Sherman also serves as the assistant director of the Las Vegas Hilton Superbook.
This is a tough spot for the golfers because it is an important tournament the week before a major," says Sherman. "A lot of golfers will still use this as a tune up to the major, stressing more importance on next week rather than this. Tiger actually practiced at Atlanta Athletic Club on Monday. This mindset definitely gives some of the outsiders a chance to get a 'major' win and a large paycheck." Other notables and odds include Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson at 20/1, and Nick Watney and Martin Kaymer at 25/1.

Johnson leads the official PGATour.com Power Rankings as written by Rob Bolton. He is followed be Lee Westwood and Steve Stricker. Of Johnson, Bolton writes: "Enters on the heels of three consecutive top 20s in Europe, including a co-runner-up at the British Open. Top 25s in both starts at Firestone. Currently 25th on the PGA TOUR in total driving and 15th in greens in regulation."
