Las Vegas, Nevada (August 9, 2011)--It seems like more and more people are jumping off the Tiger Woods bandwagon. But some of those staying on include Las Vegas golf gamblers. Money came in on Woods in his return at the Bridgestone Invitational last week plus dollars are on him at this week's final major. Read on for the official odds--Rory McIlroy (10/1) is the favorite--as provided by Las Vegas' GolfOdds.com. --By Brian Hurlburt, odds by Jeff Sherman.
"The public came in heavy on Tiger last week at the WGC," says Jeff Sherman, the founder of GolfOdds.com. "During the tournament they were betting him at 15/1 for the PGA Championship too ... after his result I felt compelled to raise him to 20/1 and we are seeing a steady flow of money on him ... Scott--or Steve Williams--was heavily supported at the WGC and continues to be for the PGA, dropping from 50/1 last week to 20/1 currently." In the official PGATour.com Power Rankings, Luke Donald is listed as the favorite. Scott is fifth. Consider Rob Bolton, creator of the Power Rankings, off the Tiger bandwagon because he isn't listed in the top 10.
Bolton writes the following about Donald, who was 15/1 to win in odds released today: "Wasted no time in returning to contention in sharing runner-up honors at Firestone where he ranked 48th in distance off the tee, but led the field in greens hit. Also carded the fewest bogeys (three) in the field."
