Las Vegas, Nevada (September 8, 2011)--To use a getting term, most all of the golfers playing in the third FedEx Cup Playoffs event--the BMW Championship--are in "good form." For the Las Vegas PGA Tour golf betting experts, that makes making the odds a bit easier, but puts the pressure on the public to pick a winner when just about anybody could claim the title. Luke Donald opened 10/1 to win followed by a group at 15/1 that includes Adam Scott and last week's champ, Webb Simpson. --By Brian Hurlburt, odds by Jeff Sherman.
"Now that we are at the 3rd playoff event, we have basically eliminated most out of form golfers and the most consistently well performing golfers lead the odds list," says Jeff Sherman, founder of GolfOdds.com. "The fact that each week a tournament is wide open for any golfer in the field makes it that much harder to pick a winner and much simpler to make the odds as they are structured by power rating and consistency, or lack thereof, in form." GolfOdds.com also has Dustin Johnson at 6/1 to win the whole FedEx Cup title. He is followed by Matt Kuchar at 8/1. Current leader Simpson is 5/2 as part of the field bet.
Stan Awtrey of PGATour.com agrees that there is always room for a cinderella in the Playoffs because the field is so deep. "Two years ago it was Heath Slocum who won The Barclays and put himself in position to win the FedExCup," writes Awtrey. "This year it's Chez Reavie. Three weeks ago few people even had Reavie on their list of players to watch; he entered the Deutsche Bank Championship at No. 87 and needed a good week just to advance to the third round. Then he almost pulled off a stunning victory in Boston and now has a reservation for The TOUR Championship."
