Las Vegas, Nevada (November 1, 2011)--Back in the day, this time of year was called the Silly Season in golf. Well, nowadays real golf continues seemingly year round, and that is the case with the playing of the HSBC Champions event in China. This is a World Golf Championships event. Rory McIlroy is the favorite to win, opening at 5/1 according to Las Vegas' GolfOdds.com. --By Brian Hurlburt, Odds by Jeff Sherman.
"The WGC event in China has a strong field just showing that golf has no offseason," says Jeff Sherman, founder of Las Vegas' GolfOdds.com and the assistant director of the Las Vegas Hilton Superbook. "Rory McIlroy is the 5/1 favorite coming off his warm up victory in Shanghai last week where his purse paid more than that of winning the US Open. Along with the big names in the tournament, there are some others to keep an eye on such as Peter Hanson at 30/1 and Simon Dyson at 50/1. Many qualified Americans bowed out this week, and others are using the tournament as a prep to the upcoming Presidents Cup in Australia later this month, where the International Team is now a pick (-110) vs. the previously favored U.S. Team (now also -110)." Rory Mc collected two million dollars for winning in Shanghai.

Adam Scott played college golf at UNLV and opened at 15/1 followed by current Las Vegas Golf Region resident Nick Watney at 20/1. Watney works with fellow Las Vegas Golf Region resident Butch Harmon.
