Las Vegas, Nevada (February 29, 2012)--The Las Vegas PGA Tour golf betting experts say there are some definite trends emerging. This comes as Las Vegas' GolfOdds.com releases the official betting odds of the Honda Classic at PGA National. Rory McIlroy opened 8/1 to win followed by Lee Westwood and Tiger Woods at 10/1. --By Brian Hurlburt, odds by Jeff Sherman. @LVGolfInsider
"For one, Rory McIlroy is a clear cut number 1 on the power rating chart," says Jeff Sherman, the founder of Las Vegas' GolfOdds.com. "And we also see that when we make prices involving Tiger Woods we are taking under consideration his lack of putting together four solid rounds. And the odds-to-win prices are taking course form into account quite considerably since the betting public continues to back golfers with strong course form no matter the odds." Other notables and their odds are Keegan Bradley and Kyle Stanley at 25/1 and Jim Furyk and Rickie Fowler at 40/1. In the individual matchups Rory Mc opned as a -135 favorite against Tiger Woods (+115).
Ben Crane, who is 25/1 in the Vegas betting odds, leads the official PGATour.com Power Rankings. He is followed by McIlroy, Mark Wilson (40/1), and Charl Schwartzel (25/1). Woods isn't listed among the Top 10 in the Power Rankings written by Rob Bolton.
Bolton believes that players with strong green in regulation stats could do well this week. "In all five years as host, PGA National has ranked inside the top 15 most difficult in greens in regulation," writes Bolton. "It sat sixth a year ago at 58.38 percent. In tandem with the reduction of birdie opportunities over the years is a seriously quiet birdie average. Last year, the field converted just 2.41 birdies per round, lowest in its history. It's never ranked lower than sixth-hardest in any year. So, a walk in the park it ain't but to tame the beast is a career accomplishment."
