Las Vegas, Nevada (May 22, 2012)--There are two big professional golf tournaments over the 2012 Memorial Day weekend. The BMW PGA Championship takes place on the European PGA Tour while the PGA Tour features the Crowne Plaza Invitational. Luke Donald opened as the favorite at 8/1 on the Euro Tour while Matt Kuchar, Jason Dufner, Zach Johnson and Rickie Fowler opened 15/1 here in the U.S. --By Brian Hurlburt, Odds by Jeff Sherman.
According to Las Vegas GolfOdds.com Founder Jeff Sherman, handicapping the different tours comes down to the same basic principles. "We look at same formulas," says Sherman, also the assistant director of the LVH Superbook. "Rating current form and course form then compare to the relative strength of field which is why i put BMW PGA event up. It has a really strong field."

The BMW event takes place at Wentworth Club in Surrey, England, while the Crowne Plaza takes place at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas. Other notables at the BMW and their odds are Lee Westwood and Rory McIlroy (each 10/1), and Justin Rose at 20/1. As always, we compare the PGATour.com Power Rankings to the Vegas betting odds.
Johnson leads the Power Rankings followed by David Toms (25/1 in Vegas) and Bill Haas (30/1). Fowler and Kuchar are 8th and 9th in the Power Rankings.
PGATour.com Power Rankings writer Rob Bolton states the following about Johnson: "Converging trends once again. Coming off a T2 at THE PLAYERS, his second runner-up in three starts (RBC Heritage), and he's posted top 10s in his last three trips to Colonial, including a victory in 2010 when he established the tournament record (21-under 259)."
