Steve Stricker Classic and Scottish Open Vegas Betting Odds Released

Las Vegas, Nevada (July 10, 2012)--PGA Tour star Steve Stricker is gunning to become only the fifth player in pro golf history to win a PGA Tour event in four-straight seasons. And that led Las Vegas' GolfOdds.com Founder Jeff Sherman to re-name the 2012 John Deere Classic as the "Steve Stricker Classic". Double S opened as a 13/2 favorite. Across the pond, the 2012 Scottish Open odds were released and Luke Donald was 8/1 to win. --By Brian Hurlburt, odds by Jeff Sherman.

Stricker looks to add his name to the following historic list of professional golf icons: Old Tom Morris, Walter Hagen, Gene Sarazen, and Tiger Woods. Woods has done it twice officially, and three times if you count his streak at the WGC Bridgestone, when he won it from 2005-07, and again in 2009 after missing the 2008 event with an injury.

According the PGATour.com Power Rankings writer Rob Bolton, "Stricker's reign at TPC Deere Run since 2009 has included three eagles and 76 birdies. That equates to a par-breaker split of a staggering 36.57 percent. His actual scoring average over his last 12 rounds is 65.33." That will get it done. Other notables in the "Stricker Classic" include Zach Johnson (12/1), and Nick Watney and Ryan Palmer, who each opened at 20/1.

Bolton had the following to say about Stricker: "Arguably the most deserving to sit atop any version of the Power Rankings all season. The three-time defending champ is chasing history this week. Hasn't done anything to warrant a lower position. Four top 10s in 11 starts this year."

Two Las Vegas golfers are featured in Bolton's Top 10 of the Power Rankings. Charley Hoffman is third followed by Scott Piercy in fifth. Vegas has Hoffman at 40/1 and Piercy at 50/1.

In the Scottish Open, the lead into next's week's British Open Championship, Donald was followed by Padraig Harrington at 15/1, and Franceso Molinari and Ross Fisher at 20/1. Phil Mickelson was 25/1 while Vegas golfer Kevin Na was 50/1.
