 May 12, 2008 (UPDATED MAY 14) --Las Vegas' Legacy Golf Club is an Arthur Hills design with cool holes, especially the par 3, 10th hole where the tee boxes are in the shape of each suit in a deck of cards, and the Devil's Triangle, made up of holes 11-13. And this week, the course plays host to 91 aspiring golfers looking to make it all the way to the US Open. The field at the Legacy Golf Club, one of four 18-hole Las Vegas golf courses operated by OB Sports, is stacked and includes a former US Amateur champ, some of college golf's best players, a few former PGA Tour players, and a whole lot of others who can golf their ball. "We're very proud to host the US Open Qualifier," says Tom Vold, General Manager of The Legacy Golf Club. "The Legacy sets up well for high-caliber golf tournaments with plenty of length, good all-around conditioning and a challenging complement of golf holes. The list of competing players includes UNLV's Seung Su Han, who qualified for the Nationwide Tour last year, but decided to return to school; Eric Meeks, the 1988 US Open Champion; Ernie Gonzales, a former PGA Tour winner; UNLV's Ji Moon; former Rebel and 1998 NCAA Title hero Chris Berry; former touring pro Vic Wilk; and several Las Vegas golf professionals from Las Vegas golf courses including Monte Mongomery, Shadow Creek; Pat O' Hara, Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort; Matthew Grobe, DragonRidge Country Club; and Dan Hammel, TPC Las Vegas, among others. Drew Scott, Mike Ruiz, Andrew Reynolds, Aaron Watkins, Jesse Mueller, and Seung Su-Han survived a very windy day to move onto the next stage. The next stage will be June 2 at Lake Merced Golf Club in the San Francisco area. The Legacy is the first stop in the journey to the US Open with the six qualifiers advancing to a regional event and from there to the US Open. "The players who have been out here practicing for the qualifier are coming off the course telling me that the conditions are unbelieveable," says Vold, a longtime Las Vegas area golf professional. "It's real fun to be behind the counter hearing the accolades, but all the credit goes to Bob Laas and his team."
