October 7, 2008--Angel Park Golf Club is the home of two 18-hole Las Vegas golf courses, a lighted par 3 short course, an all-grass putting course and expansive, lighted practice facility. And on October 9, 2008, from 5-8:00 PM this Las Vegas golf resort is opening up for a free Women's Play Golf America event hosted by the Professional Golf Management program at UNLV. Students in the developmental golf professional program will offer a series of clinics and golf lessons covering the short game, putting, full swing and "Welcome to Golf" information.

The evening will conclude with a putting contest on Angel Park's 18-hole Las Vegas putting course.  Complimentary soft drinks will be provided and participants will receive a goody bag. Golf Clubs will be provided if you don't have them. If you can't make it out to this event, Angel Park Golf Club welcomes all Las Vegas golfers and you can make your official Las Vegas golf tee times at angelpark.com. Las Vegas golf courses Legacy Golf Club and Aliante Golf Club are sister courses to Angel Park.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for women of all ages to experience the game of golf in an exciting and fun environment," says Christopher Cain, Director of the UNLV PGA Golf Management Program.  "Participants will learn about the swing, the rules of golf, and even golf etiquette through instruction from UNLV PGA students and local PGA professionals. We are excited about the evening and look forward to teaching golfers of all skill levels."

Participants will also have the opportunity to make a $5 donation to Par For The Cure. Par For The Cure, a non-profit organization, hosts an annual Celebrity Golf Tournament in Las Vegas. They are dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research. Their dream is to provide the much needed funding to eradicate this disease. Through the kindness and generosity of many, the event has become a huge success. The inaugural event raised over $100,000, while year two brought in $175,000. As The PGA of America continues to diversify the game of golf, one of the primary target markets is women.  Earlier this year, The PGA of America announced a busy schedule of women's golf initiatives, including grassroots player development programs, an online video series, an alliance with the WNBA, Play Golf America Days and special events in conjunction with major spectator championships to help grow this influential segment of golfers and bring more women to the game.

PGA of America research revealed that women accounted for 63 percent of all the new players to the game of golf through 2006, while the National Golf Foundation reported in 2007 that the total women players in the U.S. grew to 6.4 million, an eight percent growth since 2002, including 926,000 junior girls ages 6 to 17 and 5.5 million women ages 18-and-older.
