May 5, 2007--Brian McCallen is one of America's--and maybe the world's--foremost golf travel and architect writers, and his recent book, Golf's Best New Destinations, includes a chapter about Las Vegas, and our inclusion on the list is very deserving. Over the last 15-20 years, Las Vegas has blossomed into a golf destination of both high quality and high quantity, and McCallen features many of the area's most intriguing Las Vegas golf courses. "In the pale Mojave Desert on the outskirts of an unashamedly glitzy city that gets more sun and less rain than just about any other place in the nation, dozens of stellar resort and daily-fee courses by brand-name designers have sprung up since the mid 1990's," writes McCallen in a recent email, paraphrasing his writings in the book. "Against all odds, Vegas has blossomed into a genuine golf mecca." The book was released last year, and earned a solid review from the Wall Street Journal, among others.
The reviewer, Beckey Bright, writes: "This is a handsome compilation of the best of the golf course building-boom, primarily American, but with significant international entries. Mr. McCallen, a veteran, doesn't miss any good ones." Complete Las Vegas golf course guide.
The Las Vegas golf area is home to more than 60 golf courses with many built and designed by golf's biggest names including Pete Dye, Rees Jones, Billy Casper, Johnny Miller, Lee Schmidt, Brian Curley, Ted Robinson
McCallen is a former Senior Editor at GOLF Magazine, and has also published the Top 100 You Can Play and Golf Resorts of the World.
