January 9, 2010--There are two beautiful Tom Fazio-designed Las Vegas golf courses at Primm Valley Golf Club. The facility  is officially located in Primm, Nevada, the California-Nevada border that is about 35 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip. The courses are always worth the drive, and now college golf teams from across the country will be playing at Primm, enjoying the same Las Vegas golf courses the resort players do on a daily basis.

In 2009, Primm Valley was the spot for the inaugural Golfweek Conference Challenge presented by VTech, a prestigious women's collegiate event. Pepperdine won the first title by a shot over California. Unofficial host team UNLV finished in a tie for 7th. But that event signaled just the beginning for college tournament golf at this Las Vegas golf resort because several more tournaments are scheduled to be played at Primm in the coming months and years.

"We have a major new presence with college golf," reports Karl Larcom, Primm Valley Director of Golf Sales. "We hosted the 2009 Golfweek Conference Challenge, and are scheduled to host South Dakota State’s home event bringing in 180 men’s & women’s players from all over the U.S. in early March. We are also host for Cal Baptist College’s home event in March (around 150 players), the NAIA Women’s Western Regionals in May, and the Summit League inked a 4-year deal with us for their Conference Championships for 2011 thru 2014. With these events and the Southwest Section PGA junior events we have been hosting, we felt this was a great way to promote the game of golf." A byproduct of the tournaments is that families and friends come with the teams, filling up the nearby rooms at the resorts in Primm or hotels in Las Vegas.

The addition of these many college golf events adds to an already busy college golf schedule in the Las Vegas golf region. Both the UNLV men and women's golf teams host home tournaments on Las Vegas golf courses, while the Western Athletic Conference held its conference championship at Rio Secco Golf Club in 2009, and is scheduled to do so again in 2010. The women's home tournament is at Boulder Creek Golf Club, while the men play at Southern Highlands, in what is called "The Masters of College Golf."
