“This event has evolved into more than the sum of its parts,” said Kris Strauss, Director of Sales and Marketing for OB Sports Golf Management. “With the help of our generous sponsors – Cleveland/Srixon Golf, Club Car, The Bellagio, Grey Goose, and Southern Wine and Spirits – we are able to post a strong purse made up of prize money for the professionals and Angel Park gift certificates for the amateurs to create a strong incentive to play well. But competition aside, it’s a great excuse to get out, play the game and above all relax with your golf pals.” Click now to reserve your two-man team in this Las Vegas golf tournament. The teams–made up of golf professionals and amateurs from California, Arizona, Washington, Hawaii, Mississippi and beyond–will compete for cash, gift certificates and pride throughout the two-day event. There is also an optional team skins competition at a cost of $20 per team per day. Following the first round of play, the “Cloud Nine Derby Shoot” will kick-off. The field is limited to the top 15 teams that pre-paid at registration prior to the first round. This fun-filled “event within the event” is part of local lore as the 1996 Cloud Nine Derby featured an exciting hole-in-one by local touring professional Robert Gamez on the first hole. Teams that don’t qualify will be placed in a separate purse for payout based on the results of the second round. Angel Park Golf Club is a 36-hole facility located in the Summerlin area of Las Vegas. Its Mountain Course and Palm Course were both designed by Arnold Palmer. The club also has a 12-hole Cloud Nine Short Course, the World’s Original natural grass putting course and an expansive practice tee – all of which are lighted for evening enjoyment. Last year, the Cleveland Golf Pro-Scratch at Angel Park Golf Club was decided on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff hole. The two-person team of professional David Stead and amateur John Hahn, edged out three other teams after their two tournament rounds of 63 and 68 left them tied with: Joel Kijowski and Clayton Yadda (64-67); Mike Ruiz and James Logeman (65-66) and Jake Ellison and John Busby (67-64). On the first playoff hole (par-4,18th on the Angel Park’s Mountain Course), Hahn bombed his drive to within forty yards of the green. He pitched up to eight feet, and after watching Stead’s birdie attempt burn the edge of the hole, Hahn calmly rolled in his birdie putt to seal the victory. It could be argued that Stead had a home course advantage as the Director of Golf for the award-winning Angel Park Golf Club. Hahn, a Las Vegas resident who also often plays the course, made a clutch birdie to win the tournament. |
