Las Vegas PGA Tour Event Golf Week Packed With Action Including Youth Clinic With Justin Timberlake

Las Vegas, Nevada (September 15, 2010)--Sometimes, a writer has to work hard to fill in the details of a story. But sometimes a story writes itself and that is the case with articles surrounding Las Vegas' PGA Tour event, the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. The actual PGA Tour pros competition takes place Thursday-Sunday, October 21-24 at Las Vegas golf course TPC Summerlin, but the entertainment surrounding the tournament starts earlier, and the entire week is packed with much to do. --By Brian Hurlburt.

"We had three goals coming into this year's event," said Tournament Director Adam Sperling, during the event's kickoff media day. "One was to create a true community event that engages every aspect of the community, charities, school system, our local business partners. One was to educate southern Nevada and the city of Las Vegas about the amazing work that Shriners Hospitals for Children do both locally and abroad. And also to get back to the what the core product is and has been for so many years, and that is world class championship caliber golf. So I think as we sit here today we're on the cusp of achieving and realizing those goals, and will continue to work in the years to come to build upon that and make this event better and better every year for all who are involved." Others attending the media day included defending champion Martin Laird and Las Vegas resident and PGA Tour star Charley Hoffman.

The Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open is a major Las Vegas event, and helps to promote Las Vegas to the world as a world class golf destination. The Las Vegas Golf Region is the home to many top golf courses, and there are more than 30 pros who play the major pro tours who have strong ties to Las Vegas golf courses. Sperling says he counts about 15 of those Las Vegas pros who should be playing in Las Vegas in 2010. Hoffman, who is currently ranked 3rd in the FedEx Cup Playoffs standings, is holding a pro-am on Monday, and is happy to be involved. "My wife (Stacy) and I have been working pretty hard to get this Monday Pro-Am together," said Hoffman. "It came up pretty fast. We had a meeting with the board. We wanted to get back to the city where I live and local Las Vegas charities -- I have an event in San Diego also -- but wanted to give back to charities here. There is no better way than to team up with the Shriners and Justin Timberlake. To do it on Monday, it's going to be a great time." Click now to play in Hoffman's Las Vegas Golf Pro-Am.

But the Hoffman pro-am is just one of the many events, other than the official pro competition, that is happening. The week kicks off with a benefit walk to honor and raise funds for the Goodie Two Shoes Foundation on Sunday October 17, a charity that assists Las Vegas' homeless youth, some of whom may have never had a new pair of shoes. The walk takes place on the grounds of Las Vegas golf course TPC Summerlin, the private layout that hosts the JT Shriners Open. Several walk options are available. Also on October 17th is the official Fiji Water Youth Clinic--that is free--and hosted by the man himself, Justin Timberlake. The youth clinic is open to all youths in Las Vegas. Other events during the week include a Team Smile event October 18 where Las Vegas dentists offer free dental care to at-risk kids, the Beringer Women's Day on October 19 hosted by MSNBC personality Contessa Brewer with a skills clinic included, the MGM Resorts International Championship Pro-Am on October 20 where amateurs will play with PGA Tour pros plus celebrities like Timberlake, Jerry Rice, and Emmitt Smith will be on hand, and then the tour event kicks off October 21. Each of the events are open to the public, some free, with all of the details available at JTShrinersOpen.com. There are also many fun and exciting activities being planned for fans during the tournament, including The Hill, where the party happens above the 16th-18th fairways and greens including big screen tvs, food specials from some of Las Vegas' best restaurants, and much more. And this year, the tournament management has teamed up with UNLV to host Rebel Ranch, a VIP skybox area open to fans, alumni and students. And maybe the highlight of the week is the Justin Timberlake and Friends concert  which takes place October 23 at Planet Hollywood. Again, click to the website for all details.
