September 30, 2010--The Wendy's 3-Tour Challenge, a Las Vegas golf tournament that features 3-golfer teams from the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, and Champions Tour playing against each other, is back at Las Vegas' Rio Secco Golf Club. And the management of the event announced yesterday that the Champions Tour team will be Bernhard Langer, Kenny Perry and Nick Price. Price is a Wendy's 3-Tour veteran, but both Perry and Langer will be making their first appearances, kind of. Perry did play in 2008 but as a member of the PGA Tour team, while Langer has never played in the event. --By Brian Hurlburt.
The PGA Tour team was announced a couple of weeks ago and is scheduled to be United States Ryder Cup team members Dustin Johnson and Bubba Watson, plus 2008 Ryder Cupper Boo Weekly. The defending champion of the Wendy's is the LPGA Tour team of Suzann Petterson, Natalie Gulbis and Christie Kerr. Those close to the event say that it is quite possible that the same three LPGA Tour golfers will be back to defend their title. Gulbis is a Las Vegas resident who also works with Butch Harmon at Las Vegas' Butch Harmon School of Golf, located at Rio Secco Golf Club. The LPGA Tour has won the tournament in two of the last three years.
Rio Secco Golf Club is a resort Las Vegas golf course owned and operated by Harrah's Entertainment, and is open to all Las Vegas golfers. The Wendy's 3-Tour Challenge has been played at Las Vegas' Rio Secco since 2008, and has been played in the Las Vegas Golf Region since 1996, when it was played at Lake Las Vegas Resort, where Gulbis lives. In the past, the tournament has been televised tape delayed on ABC in December, but this year, the event will be shown on The Golf Channel on the same day of the actual competition, November 9. But the Wendy's 3-Tour Challenge is actually several days of special events that take place to raise money and awareness for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. The Champions Tour team will come into the event looking very strong. Langer is enjoying another dominant season on the Champions Tour. His five victories in 2010 include two Major Championships and he is currently ranked No. 1 on the Money List. He also looks poised to be named as the Tour's Player of the Year. Having turned 50 in August, Perry returns to the Wendy’s 3-Tour Challenge as a member of the Champions Tour team. The Kentucky native and 14-time winner on the PGA TOUR has been a member of two Ryder Cup teams (2004 and 2008) and four Presidents Cup teams (1996, 2003, 2005, and 2009) during his more than 25 years as a professional.
Price is a world-wide golf icon who has recorded 18 PGA TOUR and 24 international victories since turning professional in 1977. He has won three major championships (1992 and 1994 PGA Championships and the 1994 British Open Championship) and was the PGA TOUR Player of the Year and leading money winner in 1993 and 1994. Price has been a member of the last three Champions Tour teams at this tournament, including in 2008 when the Champions Tour won.
