Spotlight: Golf Summerlin Superintendent Hero Brian Bagwell

Las Vegas, Nev. (Aug. 17, 2016)–It’s a dilemma owners and managers of every golf course face: golfers love lush courses but lush courses require lots of water while at the same time water is expensive and a limited commodity so saving and conserving water is always a top priority. Golf Summerlin Director of Agronomy Brian Bagwell has some of the answers that make it all possible and has been very successful keeping everyone satisfied during his award-winning career. Mr. 58 Jim Furyk Also Knows How to Score Low in Las Vegas

Las Vegas, Nev. (Aug. 10, 2016)–When the name Jim Furyk, now known as Mr. 58, comes up in golf conversation, it’s not usually in conjunction with ‘firsts.’ Well, it is now. UNLV Golf Star McInerney Earns All-America Scholar Award

Las Vegas, Nev. (August 3, 2016)–These Rebel golfers are good on and off the course, but graduating senior captain AJ McInerney has taken it to another level. McInerney was named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced this week. First On Course Las Vegas Junior Golf Program Available In Summer

Las Vegas, Nev. (July 10, 2016)–First on Course – Learn to Play Golf is a new program organized by the non-profit Southern Nevada Junior Golf Association. All classes are taught by PGA of America instructors and are offered at a variety of courses. UNLV Golf Sensation Shintaro Ban Wins California State Amateur

Las Vegas, Nev. (June 29, 2016)–There might not be a more historic state amateur out there than the California State Amateur. The tournament was created in 1912, but never before in the history of the event had two brothers won it and that is what happened when UNLV rising junior Shintaro Ban won it recently, a year after his brother Shotaro. TPC Las Vegas Hosts Public Junior Golf Clinic Saturday

Las Vegas, Nev. (May 19, 2016)–TPC Las Vegas is a former host course for tournaments on both the PGA TOUR and PGA TOUR CHAMPIONS, but is also dedicated to junior golf. The course is the host site of a public junior golf clinic and kickoff of the PGA Jr. League this Saturday, May 21, but all kids and families are welcome to attend. UNLV Lady Rebels Sweep Mountain West Golf Championships

Las Vegas, Nev. (April 21, 2016)–It was a huge day for the UNLV Lady Golfing Rebels at the Mountain West Golf Championships played at the prestigious Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, Calif. The Rebels won the team title, homegrown product Alexandra Kaui won the individual title, head coach Amy Bush-Herzer earned Mountain West Coach of the Year honors and the team received news that they had a perfect academic APR score of 1000. Las Vegas World Amateur Includes Golfers From 30 States, 40 Countries

The 4th Annual Las Vegas World Amateur golf tournament is in the books and both golfers and Las Vegas golf courses shined. Danny Slone has played in each previous tournament, but finally broke through for the overall victory. In each of the last three years, Slone finished in the top 10 but finally claimed the Grand Champion trophy in 2016. Golf Summerlin Courses Earn Las Vegas Water Hero Award

Las Vegas, Nevada (Dec. 12, 2015)–There are three Las Vegas golf courses that make up the Golf Summerlin trifecta, and combined the courses are saving more than 172 million gallons of water annually. Overall, more than 3.1 million square feet of turf has been converted to water-efficient landscaping. Recently, the Water Conservation Coalition recognized the efforts of the Golf Summerlin staff and ownership with the annual Las Vegas Water Hero Award. Air Force Vet Tom Whitney Wins Nevada Open in Mesquite

Mesquite, Nev. (Nov. 13, 2015)–Tom Whitney came thisclose last year to winning the Nevada Open that is played annually in Mesquite, Nev. He birdied the 18th hole to force a playoff in 2014, but would eventually lose to Seann Harlingten.
