UNLV College Golf Teams

Las Vegas, Nevada (May 9, 2010)--The UNLV Women's golf team struggled in the NCAA West Regionals, and didn't move on to the NCAA Finals. They finished 16th with only the top eight teams advancing. The Men's team finished third at the Mountain Conference Tournament, but still should get a bid to the NCAA West Regionals because they have been a top 15 team for most the season.--Staff report with UNLV Sports Information.

Las Vegas, Nevada (March 20, 2010)--After winning its fourth team title of the year at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters recently in Las Vegas (tied with UCLA for the co-championship), the UNLV men's golf team has climbed the national rankings to No. 8 in Golfstat and No. 11 in Golfweek. The Rebels home facility is Las Vegas golf course Southern Highlands, but the team plays and practices at many Las Vegas golf courses.--UNLV and Staff report.

Las Vegas, Nevada (March 15, 2010)--For UNLV Head Golf Coach Dwaine Knight, it's not about how you start, it's how you finish. Ever since he came to UNLV in the mid-eighties, he has preached the importance of finishing off a round of golf in positive fashion. A tough finish led the Rebels into settling as the Co-Champs with UCLA of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters at Las Vegas' Southern Highlands Golf Club.

Las Vegas, Nevada (March 13, 2010)--Leave it to straight-shooting Hall-of-Fame UNLV Golf Coach Dwaine Knight to bring up a horrible competitive memory from the past to illustrate a point about the present. Following a wind-blown second round of the 2010 Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters, Knight referred to a devastating loss in the 1996 NCAA Championships to compare the playing conditions of his 2010 home tournament. Las Vegas, Nevada (March 12, 2010)--The UNLV Rebels are ranked 14th in the country, have a very hot golfer in Derek Ernst, and a home Las Vegas golf course which rates with the best in the world. Plus, the team's host event, the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters, is known as one of the best college golf tournamants of the entire college golf season. Las Vegas, Nevada (March 11, 2010)--The UNLV Lady Golfers love to play golf in their home tournament, as evidenced by several factors. Not only did they defend their title at Boulder Creek Golf Club in the Spring Invitational, but they dominated the field and also added the individual golf title with star Therese Koelbaek winning. Boulder Creek Golf Club is one of 50 Las Vegas Golf Region courses, and has been the host course for this Las Vegas golf event for several years. UNLV and staff report.

Las Vegas, Nevada (March 10, 2010)--Boulder Creek Golf Club is officially located in Boulder City, about 35 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip, but it is still referred to as a Las Vegas Golf Region course. And the UNLV Lady Rebel golfers are putting on an epic show thus far in the UNLV Spring Invitational. Las Vegas, Nevada (March 6, 2010--Both the UNLV Men's and Women's golf teams are in full swing in the 2010 Spring season, and both are looking ahead to home events played at Las Vegas golf courses. And each team has some golfers playing well and earning recognition, especially the men's team and star player Derek Ernst. Ernst was recently named Mountain West Conference Golfer of the Month for the third-straight time. And Therese Koelbaek recorded a top 10 at the Wave Invitational.--Staff and UNLV Report.

February 20, 2010 (Las Vegas, Nevada)--The No. 23 UNLV men’s golf team won the team title at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate on Friday by defeating Texas A&M in a playoff. It marked UNLV’s third team championship in seven tournaments this season and its fifth top-five finish of the year. The Rebels fired the low final round of the tournament with a 14-under-par 274 and after 54-holes found themselves tied with the defending national champions at 28-under 836. Texas A&M shot 12-under during the final round. UNLV defeated the Aggies on the first playoff hole to win the tournament.
