UNLV Golf Wins 2014 Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters

Las Vegas, Nevada (March 11, 2014)--There's a reason why UNLV's home golf event is referred to as the Masters of college golf. The Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters annually brings the best players and teams together for one of--if not the--top college tournaments of the year. The Rebels won the event for the seventh time in 10 years as they defeated perennial power Stanford by two shots this past weekend. "Wow," said UNLV Hall of Fame Golf Coach Dwaine Knight as he lifted the winning trophy. The Rebels earned golf team of the week by Golfweek by virtue of the victory. --By Brian Hurlburt.

UNLV Golf Looking For Both Titles of Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters

Las Vegas, Nevada (March 9, 2014)--As this is being written, the UNLV Men's Golf Team is in the midst of the final round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters. Throught two rounds, the Rebels were leading the event as a team and four players were in the top 10 individually. The prestigious tournament, which annually features one of the toughest fields in college golf, includes seven of the top-10 ranked teams in the country according to Golfweek. In addition, 11 of the 15 teams competing are ranked in the top 20. All participants this year are ranked in the nation’s top 50 and the field features 20 of the top-30 ranked individuals. UNLV Men's Golf 2013 Year In Review: Major Win, NCAA Elite Eight

Las Vegas, Nevada (December 26, 2013)--One of the most respected sports teams in Las Vegas and at UNLV is the men's golf team which is led by Hall of Fame Golf Coach Dwaine Knight. And as the calendar winds down, the list of accomplishments for 2013 is impressive for the current program and previous players. The year was highlighted by the team making the Elite Eight of the NCAA Golf Championships and former Rebel Adam Scott becoming the first former Rebel to win a major. Epic Eagle Lands For UNLV at NCAA Golf Championships

Las Vegas, Nevada (Updated June 1, 2013)--In 1998 when Dwaine Knight coached the UNLV Men's Golf team to the national title, Twitter, texting, and live internet scoring weren't even close to reality. But flash forward 15 or so years, and the technology is here to record huge moments in every facet of life. Such was the case during the third and final round of the NCAA Golf Championship qualifying to determine which eight teams would advance to the Match Play finals of the tournament. And when UNLV sophomore Kurt Kitayama dunked a 7-iron from 208 yards on his 18th hole to put his team into contention for the final spot, the online world buzzed. LIVE MATCH PLAY SCORING. UNLV College Golf Report: UNLV Men Play Finals and Lady Reb Finkelstein Honored

Las Vegas, Nevada (May 29, 2013)--The UNLV Men's Golf team is playing in the NCAA Finals for the first time since 2010, but didn't get off to the start it had expected. The Rebels stood 14th after round one. The top eight teams after round three move on to the match play portion of the tournament. In Lady Rebel golf news, sophomore Dana Finkelstein was one of 13 players to be honored as All-West Region players. UNLV Golf Returns to NCAA Golf Finals With Solid Regional

Las Vegas, Nevada (May 19, 2013)--UNLV Golf is back. For many years, it was a sure thing that the UNLV Men's Golf team would end a season by playing in the NCAA Golf Championships. In fact, the team had competed in 12-straight finals in a run from 1989-2000, and 14 of 15 through 2003. But recently, the Rebels, coached by Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame member Dwaine Knight, had a different streak going. They had missed the Final for 2-straight years and five of the previous six. But the Rebels finished 4th in the 2013 Columbus Regional to qualify for the 18th NCAA Finals in school history. Kevin Penner Wins, UNLV Finish at MWC Championship Clinches Governors Cup

Las Vegas, Nevada (May 5, 2013)--The UNLV Men's Golf team is riding a huge wave of success. Former player Adam Scott won The Masters, and this past weekend Derek Ernst, a rookie who graduated from UNLV in 2012, won the Wells Fargo Championship on the PGA Tour. And with the team's second-place finish at the Mountain West Conference Championship--ahead of state rival University of Nevada--clinched the inaugural Nevada Governor's Cup title for UNLV. UNLV Womens Golf Takes Traditional Plunge After Mountain West Title

Las Vegas, Nevada (April 28, 2013)--The UNLV Women's Golf team won the Mountain West Conference championship this weekend, and then took the traditional victory plunge at the Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club. Annually, the winner of the Kraft Nabsico LPGA Tour major jumps into the lake adjacent to the 18th green, and the Rebels followed suit after their big win. UNLV College NCAA Golf Report: Rebels Finish 9th in Tucson

Las Vegas, Nevada (March 18, 2013)--The UNLV Rebels men's golf team isn't off to the start it was hoping for early in the Spring NCAA golf season. After not successfully defending its 2012 win in hits home event in Las Vegas recently--the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters--the Rebels finished 9th out of 16 team at the Don Puckette National Invitational Tournament played in Arizona. UNLV College Golf: Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters Wraps

Las Vegas, Nevada (March 11, 2013)--The defense rested, so to speak, for the UNLV golf team at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters. The event is the home tournament for UNLV, and the Rebels were team and individual defending champions. But they struggled to a 9th-place finish as a team, and Blake Biddle was unable to go back-to-back. California earned some revenge for their runner-up finish in 2012 as they went wire-to-wire in 2013. Biddle was the best Rebel, but could only manage a 25th place finish. --By Brian Hurlburt
