Las Vegas PGA TOUR Pro Kevin Na At Top of US Open Leaderboard

Las Vegas, Nevada (June 12, 2014)--In 2011, Kevin Na became the first professional with strong ties to Las Vegas to win the hometown PGA TOUR event. After one round of the U.S. Open at Pinehurst, Na was at -2 and well inside the top five of the leaderboard. Sad Day In Vegas Golf To Be Relived During Erica Blasberg Civil Trial

Las Vegas, Nevada (May 4, 2014)--One of the saddest days in the history of the Las Vegas golf community will be relived this week when the civil trial over the death of former Las Vegas resident and LPGA Tour star Erica Blasberg begins here in Las Vegas. Blasberg was originally from Southern California but moved to Las Vegas a few years prior to her death, which was ruled a suicide. Blasberg was active in the community. She attended various charity events and played and practiced at Southern Highlands Golf Club. Blasberg died on May 9, 2010, and the circumstances surrounding the suicide and a relationship with a married doctor and member of Southern Highlands raised a lot of questions. The civil trial may answer many of them. --By Brian Hurlburt.

New Las Vegas National Pro Leo Calabro Embraces History of Course

Leo Calabro Las Vegas National

Las Vegas, Nevada (December 17, 2013)--Leo Calabro, the new head professional at Las Vegas National Golf Club, took one look around the course and could feel the deep history of the place. Opened in 1961, Las Vegas National is located in the heart of Las Vegas and is one of the most historic golf courses in Las Vegas. Arguably, the most historic. And Calabro, who returns to the Las Vegas Golf Region after working for eight years at the luxurious JW Marriott Tucson Star Pass Resort in Arizona, will be embracing that nostalgia while bringing the course into the future. Las Vegas National is a previous host course for events on the LPGA Tour and PGA Tour in addition to being a celebrity hang out for the Rat Pack. --By Brian Hurlburt

Vegas PGA Tour Residents Make Mark at Shriners Even Without Victory

Las Vegas, Nevada (October 21, 2013)--From a pure golf standpoint, Vegas golf fans are probably bummed that a Las Vegas Golf Region resident didn't win the PGA Tour's Shriners Hospitals for Children Open for a third-straight time. The streak is over at two after Kevin Na (2011) and Ryan Moore (2012) went back-to-back, but even without claiming the trophy, the PGA Tour pros who call Las Vegas home still made a difference at the tournament. Plus the local pros felt a new vibe with FedExCup points on the line and say the tournament is on the right track. "I think the field was the best it's been since I've played out here for sure, and it's nice to see the people come support the Las Vegas community, and hopefully we'll get bigger and better every year," said Charley Hoffman, the area's top pro after a fourth-place finish. --By Brian Hurlburt, Like on Facebook.

Las Vegas, Nevada (October 19, 2013)--Ryan Moore was a 4-time All-American at UNLV and won the 2004 NCAA title. He moved away from Las Vegas for a brief stint a few years ago, but is now back living in the area and says the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open "is a fifth major" on his importance scale. Moore recorded a 24-under par total in 2012 to win the event and following a 63 in round two in 2013, he is back in contention to become the first repeat winner since Jim Furyk in 1998 and 1999. Moore is being trailed by a large contingent of family and friends this week, just as he was last year when he became the first former Rebel to win Vegas' PGA Tour event. --By Brian Hurlburt, Like on Facebook.
