Las Vegas Golfer Inbee Park Challenges at Ricoh Women's British Open

Las Vegas, Nevada (July 31, 2011)--It may not be common knowledge, but Inbee Park is the only golfer with strong ties to the Las Vegas Golf Region to win a major. Park is challenging for the 2011 Ricoh Women's British Open title. She is a former Nevada State High School champion and was around the lead all week at Carnoustie. --By Brian Hurlburt.

Park originally hailed from South Korea but moved to the United States, specifically Las Vegas, to hone her golf skills. She attended Bishop Gorman High School and, for a time, played out of Badlands Golf Club. During interviews this week, Park talked about how Se Ri Pak has been a motivating factor for women golfers in her country.

"Se Ri, not just to me but to a lot of young golfers in Korea; I think she influenced a lot of them," Park told the media in Carnoustie. "She's up there with me, and I'm really happy the way she played and really looking forward to playing with her. she's been playing good ten years ago, but still she's playing good, so it's really surprising the way she's done it. It's just very good."

Park won the the 2008 U.S. Women's Open, becoming the youngest champ in the history of the event in the process. No other golfer from Las Vegas has ever won a major event. This year at the Ricoh, Park recorded the lowest round of the tournament, a second-round 64. The only other round of 64 was fired by Pak, also in the second round. LIVE SCORING.
