 June 12, 2007--Matt Edwards, who played high school golf at Las Vegas' Coronado High School, will be a senior at New Mexico State University in the fall, and is readying himself for his final college season by playing in some events on the Southern Nevada Golf Association schedule. At the SNGA Championship played at Las Vegas golf course Mountain Falls (the course is actually located in Pahrump), he fired rounds of 71-72--143 to win the event's Championship Division by three strokes over John Sawaia and Frank Acker. SNGA events are played on many different Las Vegas golf courses.
"I didn't necessarily play flawless golf, but I hit it extremely well," Edwards said about his two rounds at the SNGA Championship. "I hit 15 greens in regulation each day, and, for me, hitting 30 out of 36 greens in two days is very good." Edwards said his scores could've been even better, but some putts didn't drop, even though he felt his execution was solid. "I didn't putt as well as I usually do, and I really missed some chances out there, especially on the back side of the second round," Edwards said. "I hit good putts, and put them were I wanted them, but I just had a few mis-reads, and missed some by a half-inch here and there." Edwards played the round very strategically. "I played kind of safe, but I was aggressive when I needed to be," Edwards said. The win was the first of the year for Edwards. Jimmy Bradley was the winner of the net division with a two-round adjusted total of two-under par to edge Jim Lavigne and Paudie O' Connor. PHOTO: New Mexico State University
