 April 25, 2008--It's been awhile since the Las Vegas golf area has seen a new golf course open, but the wait is over as The Chase, a Jack Nicklaus design, officially opens for public play as part of PGA Golf Club Coyote Springs. The facility and this course are a partnership between the PGA of America, Coyote Springs developers and Nicklaus, and is located a short, 50-mile drive from Las Vegas. The Chase is the original jewel of what someday is planned to be a huge masterplanned community with several more Las Vegas Nicklaus golf courses, dubbed the Bear Trail. The future calls for a signature design with Pete Dye, the first time the two icons will have worked together. "At The Bear Trail, my design staff and I are excited to have the opportunity to create a truly exceptional legacy," says Nicklaus. "Mother Nature has given us a unique canvas to work on, a mix of dramatic, pristine desert along with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains." The Chase is a resort, daily fee course. "The courses we are now planning for Coyote Springs will use and enhance this rare landscape to offer players of every skill level a golf experience which is enjoyable, challenging and memorable," Nicklaus says. At first glance, The Chase is a stunner that features extreme undulating fairways and squiggly-lined bunkers that creates a feeling that the course is in constant motion--or 'chasing' the golfer during the round. Director of Golf Mike Sizemore says that Nicklaus wanted the course to seamlessly meld into the surrounding scenery. The man-made rock features were created to emulate the mountain backdrops, and the result makes you feel like the mountains are just a nine-iron away, not several miles in the distance as is really the case.
