Las Vegas Pro Golfers Have Solid Weekend on Tours, Highlighted by a Brother and a Baby Print E-mail

Image July 7, 2008--There were names of Las Vegas golfers all over the final results of the PGA Tour and LPGA Tour over the July 4th weekend, including Tommy Armour III (grew up in Las Vegas, pictured) and Dean Wilson (resident), who finished in a tie for third at the AT&T National, while Alex Cejka (resident) finished in a tie for 9th. And U.S. Women's Open champ, Inbee Park (resident), continued her strong play with a 10th-place finish at the LPGA Tour's P&G Beauty NW Arkansas Classic. Plus, Stephanie Louden (grew up in Las Vegas) made her first appearance in 2008 following her stint away due to the birth of her first child. She finished in a tie for 49th in Arkansas. Armour III has made 9 out of his last 10 cuts, and finished in the top 10 five times during the stretch that started about the same time his brother, Sandy, hopped back on his bag as caddie. Armour III flashed his notable personality during the week when asked why he enjoys playing in the Washington, DC area, where the event was held at Congressional Country Club. "I like D.C., I like to play golf and those are the two things," Armour III wryly said. "I just like to come here. There's nothing particular. I like the area. I've always enjoyed coming here."

Armour III now stands 36th on the money list with more than $1.3 million in earnings, and in 36th in the FedEx Cup standings. During his streak, Armour III has finishes of 2nd, 3rd, 6th, 7th and 10th. Armour III is 48 years old, and a two-time PGA Tour champion.

About two dozen PGA Tour and LPGA Tour players either live here, played at UNLV or grew up in Las Vegas. They play and practice at many of Las Vegas' best golf courses including TPC Las Vegas, Reflection Bay Golf Club and many others.

Other Las Vegas golfers making a cut over the weekend included Nick Watney (resident), T49; Charley Hoffman (UNLV player, resident), T72; Natalie Gulbis (resident), T49; and Charlotte Mayorkas (resident), T68.

Image Louden, along with husband Mike, welcomed Lucas Micah--6 pounds, 4 ounces--to the world on April 24 of this year. In addition to her golf and mom duties, Louden is serving as the 2008 Vice President of the Player's Executive Committee of the LPGA Tour. The Loudens now reside in Texas after moving from Las Vegas late last year.

Wilson played in the final group on Sunday with eventual AT&T champion Anthony Kim, and was impressed with his game.

"Anthony's got such a good-looking swing," Wison told the media following the final round. "He hits the ball solidly all the time and hits it hard. He's excited about playing. He plays hard. He wants to be in the limelight. He craves that, as a matter of fact. He's got exceptional skills and I think we are just seeing the tip of the iceberg with this kid, he's got real talent."
