July 13, 2008--Both Greg Maddux and Butch Harmon are residents of Las Vegas, and the two have teamed up on the Maddux-Harmon Celebrity Invitational, an event that benefits the Greg Maddux Foundation, for eight years. This year the event will be played October 20-21 at Las Vegas' private, 27-hole Spanish Trail Golf and Country Club, the home Las Vegas golf course of Maddux, a single-digit handicap. Pros and celebrities who have played in the event in past years include Mike Maddux, Ray Romano, Barry Bonds, Kenny G, Pete Sampras, Luke Wilson, UNLV Head Basketball Coach Lon Kruger, and Lake Las Vegas Resort resident Natalie Gulbis. "Our foundation’s mission is to lend support to many worthy charities across our nation, many of them aimed at helping children," says Maddux. "This tournament is one valuable component to our fundraising efforts and I am thrilled to play on my home course at Spanish Trail Golf and Country Club this year. The quality of Spanish Trail will add to the success of the event."

Maddux, currently playing with the San Diego Padres, is a native of Las Vegas who played for Valley High School before being drafted by the Chicago Cubs. He annually plays in several charity events and is a regular at UNLV basketball games. Brother Mike, now pitching coach of the Milwaukee Brewers, also played in the major leagues and attended Rancho High School.

Harmon moved to Las Vegas about a decade ago when he opened the Butch Harmon School of Golf at Las Vegas golf course Rio Secco Golf Club. The school has become a quasi-historical landmark because the best players in the world travel--or have traveled--to the facility to hone their games. Harmon's current list of players includes Fred Couples, Phil Mickelson, Adam Scott, Natalie Gulbis and Ernie Els, among others. And Harmon formerly worked with Tiger Woods who spent many hours at the Butch Harmon School of Golf.
