The list of celebrities who play golf in Las Vegas is long. Presidents, movie stars, athletes and other notables tee it up here on a daily basis. The late Sammy Davis, Jr., and his Rat Pack buddies, were some of the first to make golfing in Vegas the cool thing to do.

Sammy Davis Jr. used to play a lot of golf at the old Desert Inn Country Club. I once played nine holes with him there, in the late 70s.

These days, the Desert Inn is now hallowed ground that is home to Wynn Country Club, the brainchild of Tom Fazio and Steve Wynn. The new course is the centerpiece of the Wynn Resort.

When I asked him on the first hole how he was playing, he said, “I do fine if I remember the best tip I ever had. A pro once told me to make certain I keep my eye on the ball.”

He then looked up at me, with his glass eye cocked at ninety degrees, to see if I got the joke. When he let out a huge laugh, I realized I was in for a fun round.

You never know who you might see golfing in Las Vegas.
