May 17, 2007–The PGA of America is dedicated to growing the game of golf, and one of the special programs for the golfer is the play golf america campaign that conducts events and promotions throughout the year to entice people to take up the game or to play the game more. Several Las Vegas golf courses–under the direction of the Las Vegas Chapter, Southwest Section PGA– are actively involved with events surrounding Play Golf America Day. Angel Park Golf Club is hosting a free golf festival with instruction, golf club demos from brands like NIKE, Callaway, PING and many others, special events and more on Sunday, June 3 from 10 AM – 3 PM.
Angel Park Golf Club Director of Golf David Stead is the host professional, but PGA of America pros from several Las Vegas golf courses will be on hand. "Basically, this is just a big golf party," says Stead. "We have Las Vegas Chapter PGA pros from around the valley providing free lessons and clinics, club manufacturers will have demos available, and it will be a fun and casual way for people to get more involved in the game of golf."
Play Golf America is a national campaign developed and led by the PGA of America to increase golf participation for new and occasional golfers.
"Play Golf America Day welcomes new golfers all the way to the avid golfers who simply love the sport," says Southwest Section, PGA of America Executive Director Kathy Wilkes. " … From our free instruction to touring a few holes with seasoned PGA professionals, to trying out the latest equipment, Play Golf America Day is a great program for the golf enthusiast."
The Las Vegas Chapter, Southwest Section PGA, is the backbone of the Las Vegas golf community, and support many of the area's golf causes including the Southern Nevada Junior Golf Tour, a program of The First Tee of Southern Nevada.
