October 10, 2007–The Women's Southern Nevada Golf Association recently held its major amateur championship at Angel Park Golf Club, and the champion of the gross division was Regina Quintero who fired rounds of 78-79 to defeat Liz Carroll by a single shot. The net division was won by Carol Halstead who shot adjusted rounds of 77-73 to edge Nina Steirer by a single stroke. Angel Park Golf Club is billed as the world's most complete golf experience and is the home of two Arnold Palmer-designed golf courses, the Mountain and the Palm. "I attribute my win to only three-putting twice over the two days," said Halstead.
Halstead started playing golf when her Dad introduced her to the sport and has played off and on for decades.
"My father put a golf club in my hand at 2 but I didn't really take the game up seriously until my 20's and have played off and on for the past 30 years," said Halstead.
Halstead retired to Las Vegas in 2002 and is a member of Red Rock Country Club. She won the club championship at Langdon Farms in Oregon in 1998, and has five aces in her golf career inlcuding three in one 5-month stretch.
Laurie Johnson was third in the gross division while Debbie Roberts finished third in the net.
