November 28, 2007–UNLV women’s golf signed a pair of student-athletes to national letters of intent on Tuesday during the early signing period and they will join the Rebel golf team next fall, the athletics department announced. Bethany Glassford and Kristen Schelling are the pair that has inked during the early signing period and they will be able to compete for UNLV next fall during the 2008-09 season. Glassford is a local product from Coronado High School and she is currently the top-ranked junior player in Nevada in the 2008 class according to Golfweek. She was the 2007 runner-up in the Nevada State Girls Championship while also competing in several AJGA tournaments. Schelling is a senior at Red Mountain High School in Mesa, Ariz., and she is currently the second-ranked junior player in Arizona and the 19th overall prospect in the country in the 2008 class according to Golfweek.
She won the 2005 Arizona 5A state championship and was the 2007 East Valley Regional champion. Schelling has recorded 17 top-10 finishes in AJGA tournaments, including two runner-ups, and she played on the 2006 PAG Junior Ryder Cup Team. She was named the MVP of her high school team for three consecutive years and she was a 2006 AJGA Rolex All-American.
This year’s Rebel squad resumes play in the spring at the Wildcat Invitational, hosted by the University of Arizona in Tucson, Ariz., on Feb. 25-27.
